Ok so my first Colorado backcountry elk hunt is in the bag. Although I didn't tag out I had a great time and learned a lot. My question to you all is what lightweight 2 man tent or shelter are you using? This is one of the areas I'm already looking at for cutting down weight for next year.

My favorite two man shelter is the SL5. It is awesome to have the the space to sit on your sleeping pad and cook and eat without hitting your head or ducking.

Are you looking to go floorless or not?

I have an sl5 that works and is light but am looking to possibly change to the seek outside little bug out for more versatility

If you are looking for a tent with a floor, I recommend looking at the Tarptents. Very nice tents that are lightweight and a great value.

Tarp tents is a good place to check out
There is also thos place http://bigskyproducts.com I don't have any experience with either of them though.
You could always go with a golite sl3 and a custom nest or the seek outside bt-2 or lbo with a nest.

Tarp Tents and Big Sky like already mentioned are good contenders.
I have the Scarp 1 which I have been happy with but it's not the lightest for it's size and the 2P Scarp would be too heavy.
My buddy has a BigSky Revolution2P and he's been happy with it....
http://www.rokslide.com/forums/showthread.php?21520-Big-Sky-Products-Revolution-2P-review
And his 2P weighs just a hair more then my 1P Scarp, for a lot more room.
Had them set up side by side and the only thing that I would be cautious of is the material of the Revolution. It's quite a bit thinner then the Scarp 1 (obviously, they are about same weights) but so far seems durable enough. He uses a ground sheet, I do not. After a full season's use we'll know more if durability is a problem. So far so good.

You could also take something like a Megatarp and get custom floors/nest for it if you like that layout better. My brother has a bathtub floor for his from BearPaw and it took A LOT of water last year and kept him dry. Had I pitched in his spot I don't think my bivy would have done the job....You then have options of going floorless, tarp and floor, or tarp/floor/bug net, depending on needs. The Megatarp does work pretty decent with 2 people.

+1 for the Tarptent. I have a Rainbow 2 that has been excellent for 3 season camping. Also have a Hilleberg Nallo 2 GT that I use when the weather promises to get rough. Most of the time I take the Tarptent.

I have used an 8x10 square oware tarp and a screened insert with flooring by bearpaw wilderness design. It's a lot of room for two people and weighs a little over 2lbs with stakes and guylines. The only issue is its hard to find enough space for a tarp this long and it takes a lot of practice setting it up. For winter I use a bearpaw wilderness design Luna 4 with a stove. Heavier but it feels more spacious because of headroom. One can have flooring added as an option (obviously when not using the stove).

Doing a bit more research I'm actually liking the "tarp" concept.. The only worry would be water making its way under the tarp but I guess that's where a bathtub floor would come into play. Hmmmmm. Decisions - decisions! . Lol

If you decide to go with a tent, try to look at the big agnes copper spur 2. They have side entry which is good for the rainy days. You can buy on sale at rei during one of their 20% off sales, try it out, and return it if you don't like it. I did that on a flycreek 1 and copper spur 2. Returned with no questions asked. You have a year to do the return.
