Looking for the lightest mid hikers that have no "waterproof" membrane. The last time I went through this it took a lot of googling. Those boots are now made with the plastic sweat bag in them. Any leads to a resource? Thanks.

For years, I always liked the merrell Moabs both the low and high top version. Went with the goretex once and they were sweat boxes. I also have had some durability issues on my last two pair of Merrells and a bad customer service experience on the last one so, after a bit of research, I see some keens in my future.

For really, really ultralight, I think trail running shoes are the way to go. Solomon has been good to me.

Merrell Moab Ventilator ain't bad and they are available in wide. They're just about half a pound heavier than what I'd like. May have to settle.

Salomon has a nice boot that seems light enough, but it has the GTX membrane. How does that work in a mid, not a trail runner? Thanks.

Not sure. I use the speed cross and XA pro in wide. Both trail runners. Speed cross has a really aggrieved tread but it wears quick on hard surfaces. Xa pro is my super light hiking and fast packing shoe of choice.

It's hard to find mid-height boots that don't have some kind of waterproof membrane. Someone mentioned the Merrell Moab ventilator models. I believe you can find Lowa boots that have no GTX lining (their LL models - for "leather lined" - I believe), but I'm not sure if these are easy to find. But their boots are not lightweight. Salomon might have some options?

If you're willing to go with a low-top shoe, then your options open up considerably because you can buy trail runners, most of which do not have a waterproof lining.
