Yeah, I’m gonna try to not throw anything but time into mine if I can help it! Any idea what your action is made from?
So, the guy at Phantom said the neck tension was more consistent, but I didn't think to ask about neck sizing, your neck size only idea is a great idea!I can see the case fitting the chamber for multiple firings, my neck sized brass cases usually fit for several firings. My question would be about maintaining neck tension over multiple firings.
I wonder how well a neck sizing die would work with them(??). I also wonder if they'd start popping primers at those higher pressures. Certainly might open up some different reloading angles with powder choices, etc.
My 5.5 lb including everything 308 was pretty rough, a 5lb 12 gauge, wow, probably like those cheap single shots I shot as a kid, not fun.Yeah, I’m gonna try to not throw anything but time into mine if I can help it! Any idea what your action is made from?
Have you fired this ammo and had fired brass to measure or test for chamber fitment? Or are you just speculating.......I can see the case fitting the chamber for multiple firings, my neck sized brass cases usually fit for several firings. if I remember correctly, Mike Bellm told me 223 was on the edge of what the contender frame could take. It was pressure/ rear thrust related, so I wouldn't even try 5.56 pressures, but I could be mixed up as it's been a long time.Something about the design of the cases is what should make the difference. The case is taking the extra pressure, not the action. Same idea as behind the new "7 Backcountry" cartridge id guess.
He's just thinking about potential problems. I did order a box last night, so I'll have some of the magic brass soon!Have you fired this ammo and had fired brass to measure or test for chamber fitment? Or are you just speculating.......
Ouch! That's all I have to say.
It says on their site that you shouldn't resize the rifle cases.... Have you found anyone on the web resizing them successfully? No trimming sounds like a dreamHe's just thinking about potential problems. I did order a box last night, so I'll have some of the magic brass soon!
I have a 12 Gauge that looks quite similar. Mine seems to be made out of fairly heavy steel.Yeah, I’m gonna try to not throw anything but time into mine if I can help it! Any idea what your action is made from?
Nope, but I tend to run my loads hot enough to wreck alpha OCD brass in about 4 reloads anyhow. I won't shoot them much, shoot cheap factory stuff for practice so a box of 50 will last a decade or more if I can get a few loadings out of itIt says on their site that you shouldn't resize the rifle cases.... Are there any optic mounting options on that barrel?Just to add to those interested in the contender variant. For their finished weight and compact size they are solid. Mine shoots very well and has the nickname Swiss cheese. Its currently 5.4lbs all up suppressed after changing rings and rail recently.
-Custom Fluted 223AI 1:7 twist 16.5” originally from SSK
-SSK50 frame
-Choate forend and stock

That's still a chonk of a barrel contour, even if it is fluted. Will they do a proper lightweight thin barrel for a T/C frame?Yes it has the SSK 6 screw mounting holes but I use a weaver base and warne hyperlite rings now. Over the ssk mount and pervious rings I dropped ~3oz from this which did not include my sling or 1 223AI cartridge. View attachment 825175
Is yours super sensitive to face pressure? Or just pressure points in general? Mine with the 6 arc barrel is wildly sensitize (like 5 moa). I’m wondering if it’s the folding AR style adjustable stock or something else.Yes it has the SSK 6 screw mounting holes but I use a weaver base and warne hyperlite rings now. It's all about the hinge pins. You want them to be a light press fit, for action and barrelIs yours super sensitive to face pressure? Or just pressure points in general? What rifle is this and where can I view more information about?I ordered one of these last night. I’m not claiming it’s an Ultra light but I’m intrigued to see what it actually looks like and weighs on my scale. The specs say it’s an aluminum receiver. If so it might be possible to get this gun pretty light with some work. Either way it’s cheap so I’m not out a ton of money either wayView attachment 820091
It’s actually super tight for the barrel that doesn’t shoot as well. My .223 barrel is shorter and lighter. It’s pressure sensitive but we are talking 1 moa. If I do my part it’s easily a 3/4 minute barrel. It's all about the hinge pins. You want them to be a light press fit, for action and barrel
It is the standard contour (straight .810”), Karl really got after it with the fluting but it isnt as light as it could be if it was turned down. A 5 axis machine could turn it down and leave the forend mounting dovetails. I would guess a pencil profile would be around 16-19oz. But smokes you would have $$$$ into it by then. That's still a chonk of a barrel contour, even if it is fluted. Will they do a proper lightweight thin barrel for a T/C frame?
Sub 4lbs on the bare rifle. I think you're pretty much there. What suppressor is that?
