Similar to the REI suggested chair, I have the Big Agnes Helinox. At 2lbs it isn't going to qualify as a bare essential but considering comfort, I will definitely pack it when I can.

I used one on my trip to Alaska for Moose this year and I can see the legs sinking in as it happened to me. Back in camp we had to keep moving our chairs. I had actually bought one of the lightweight ones with no back but ended up using the ones provided for camp. The REI branded ones.."Tripod with no back support" I used in the pack while calling. I like that style as it makes you more mobile when in the chair. No problem with what I had brought on my drop camp. Prices go up with the added back and so does the weight. Bob.

If one hade a seat on the bottom it shouldn't sink. Design gurus up!

We have three sizes of the Roll-a-Chair/Stool and Pack Stool.

The chair is fairly comfortable, not as light as the stools though but still not bad at just over 2.5 lbs.

I have one of the Roll-a-cot chairs as well and like it.
I use it for rafting & w/ the mules, but not as a backpack chair.

For backpacking I've been thinking of designing & sewing up a tri-pod seat that you cut the legs from limb wood once on site.

If you're using a thermarest pad, the trekker chair is pretty handy to have:

Have you or Luke/Becca succesfully used these with a chunk of RidgeRest?

The only downside I could think of is your ass being on the ground. Kind of hard to get up from the mud or crowd a fire. Fire being the inflatable's nemisis. A 2# chair like my OP would be ideal.

Also what is better, the Helinox or the Roll?

After two years of solid use Becca did manage to get a pin hole from an ember in hers...a dab of UV aqualseal (Thanks Stid) had it fixed in just a couple minutes and has been going ever since. They've seen a lot of fires and this is teh first time its been an issue. If I was older it might be an issue I suppose if it was hard to get up from the ground.....but I'm not there yet and the double benefit of a seat and a sleeping pad and being half the weight of the other cars makes it a much better option for me.

Here is the one I am picking up. http://store.grandtrunkgoods.com/view-all/micro-stool
I had the chance to try it out at a local sporting goods store and I really like it. I am going to take the mesh off the bottom to lighten it up a little bit. I may try and affix some sort of back to it.

Really? I saw these at Cabela's and laughed at how small they were. I guess if you tried them out then it just might work for you. I just couldn't imagine trying get up or down off of it. Plus I think my knees would be killing me after trying to sit for a while and at 5'11" I am not tall by any means. If it works for you, though, be sure to report back with some photos and a review.

Yeah Im under that at 230.

Everyone has forgotten about the Kifaru Cargo Chair and using that as a chair. I have one going to test that out this year and see how it works. So far from setting it up and testing it on bleachers it works good for me. I watched Patricks Video on how to flip it around and attach the Cargo chair to sit in it. Works great. Hard to say how well it will hold up but since the Cargo Chair is meant to carry someone in the field I bet it fairs pretty good. If this works then I got a chair integrated into my pack. Which is nice.

I still want to try out that 10 ounce chair though. After looking closer though it looks really low to the ground compared to their 22 ounce model. Maybe that one would be better for the extra 12 ounces. I definitely get tired of sitting on the ground while out in the field. I try and make a point to find a seating arrangement when I can at the camps I make.

I am going to go to the store (hopefully tonight) and take a closer look at it. I will try and post some pictures up sitting in it so you guys can see how low/high it is.
