I sent these boots in recently for a repair. As you can see, the stitching on the back of the boot came out. No big deal. When I called, they said this was a common issue and it would be an easy fix. I only had the boot five months, so they were under warranty. I'm bummed because these were my go-to boots. Here are some photos. I'm just curious if this is a normal repair for a boot? Not only does it look bad, the repair changed the feeling of the boot on my achilles as well.

Thanks for any feedback.

The stitching looks intact to me. It appears that the lighter colored "leather" was excessively perforated by the stitching and after some time it basically tore out. Not sure how it could be effectively fixed, but that frankenstein patch was sure to effect the flex of that part of the boot. Good luck

That light colored leather was there specifically to be a flex point. The problem is that the stiffer stitched leather above and below literally cut it apart as the boot flexed—that design almost guarantees that will happen at some point. You cant really fix it without a patch because there isnt really anything to stitch back together. But yes, you lose the flex point to a degree. Oil it up to soften that leather, break it in.

Maybe I'm out of line, but I would be very displeased if that was how warranty work was handled. What boots are those?

No, that is not like any repair I have seen. Erict described it correctly... frankenstein patch! I certainly would not be happy. Without a doubt, I would contact them and insist on another solution.

If the boot can’t be fixed to original condition or reasonably original condition, new boots should be offered. That looks like a job someone on their first shift of sewing would do

Presuming the boot has a waterproof breathable lining, the repair stitched the hung liner to the leather creating new leak points. New boots should have been the response. Brand of boot?
