I am new to Rockslide and already feel like I am in debt to the site due to connections made and gear acquired. I am still a long ways from having all the gear I wish to eventually purchass, but making strides. My out west experience is limited, but still went 2 for 2 on bulls and had a few close encounters on each hunt, and getting more hooked on the western experience each time out. Eventually I hope to combo some really tough low odds hunts...the unlimited sheep hunts in Montana and calling and killing wolf and mountain lion in Idaho.

I only bowhunt and like diy solo type hunts and seldom gravitate to anything easy. I just find it more rewarding doing it the hard way. I hope to remaster the recurve and hunt will switch to it as soon as ethically possible. Looking forward to learning and hope to contribute also.

My point is, we all start somewhere. I would rather Rokslide be a place where all hunters can learn, teach, research and apparently shop for gear in the classifieds. There are plenty of places out there for a guy to tell you how good he is. TBM may have lots to teach us. I wouldn't ban anyone on reputation. I let their action dictate that.

It's kind of funny.......I am the "Y personality" approach kind of guy. I assume EVERYONE is a scum-sucking lowlife dirt bag until proven otherwise. The "X's" assume everyone is generally good, until proven otherwise.

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. People on line dont really know you, so the way they judge you is a reflection on themselves. I have inadvertently smoked some some out of their shells, and most eventually are figured out by closely looking at their patterns. Some have accused me on lying about killing elk, so one might could assume they would do the same, but then again, if they think going 2 for 2 is almost impossible for a flatlander, then maybe the are basing their assumptions of degree of difficulty and odds.

The ones I can't figure out are the ones that post regularly when they kill and disappear when they get skunked. That is just so foreign to how I operate.

It's good to find a community of folks who are likeminded, and when you are from a small town in the south about the only place to find that is on a site such as this. When folks down here see me walking with my backpack they think I am just some stray homeless person. They don't haven a clue that I am just on the way to Wal-Mart to grocery shop, testing my gear and getting in shape for western hunting at the same time, plus saving gas and vehicle wear and tear. Even when I ride my mountain bike I get some looks...I suppose that is justified being the nearest mountain is 100's of miles away.

I'm pretty much use to it...even shooting a bow here will place you in the minority as most here drink beer and eat chicken wings as a hobby. It is hard to find a bowhunter during the gun seasons and nobody bow hunts turkey in the spring. I hear of a few that go out west, but I don't see any evidence of it. So when I load my pack frame up with a boxing heavy bag, and walk barefooted over the tar and gravel roads, I would feel alone if it were not for the connections I have on here...I know someone, somewhere is doing the same thing, toughening up their feet, heart, and soul. Yep, around home I am looked upon as different, and soon will be adding to the list on differences when I start sleeping behind the shrubs, testing out my sil tarp and sleeping bag, possibly a hammok on the most cold and wet nites. Seems smart to me, testing gear in the yard, getting accustomed to setting things up and surviving in the elements. Yep, I hope it's a cold wet winter with sleet and snow...I want to be ready!!
