So I had a couple friends go to Standing Rock reservation a few years ago and had success for Merriam. Anybody else out there get the res tag and try it out?

i just get a state tag if i want one but i live here. From what i have heard numbers are down a fair amount from a few years back. I would rather go to the black hills and hunt them any way.

Used to be better.... wait for it.... we when we could use rifles.... yes many hate it but I enjoyed low power small cartridge spot and stalk turkeys. Never shot 1 over 50yds and I know people don't like it, but I do still feel like it was a rule change forced in by "real" turkey hunters under the cloak of safety. Any way.. pine Ridge res is a great place to go.

Not what I was hoping to hear, but thank you for the insight. Hopefully we can find a couple pockets of birds around. Hopefully things change for the better.

I have been there twice in last three years, the year we did not go we went to Black Hills. Standing Rock is a great turkey hunting area. We have been successful both time shooting 2 of our 4 in 2 days the first year and 3 out of 4 in 2 days. Few takeaways I have are make sure you know where you are hunting use OnX hunting maps, they have maps at the Game and Fish Office, but they are old and land has changed. We did best by finding birds and calling them off roost, also the scoot and shoot works good out their. Some land owners can be defensive over land that is not theirs but we just respected them and left the one time we got yelled at. Weather is the biggest thing out there high winds ruin the day.
