Hey guys. What's your method of tuning? Are you bareshafting? Or tuning to shoot where you look? Combo of the two? I just picked up a recurve which is shooting a bit harder than my longbow so I'm back at the tedious (yet fun) task of finding the right arrow combo.

Jarrod: No bareshafting for me. Sometimes a little paper tuning.
I like my arrows a specific length so my tuning is centered on the weight of the insert/broadhead/fieldpoint. Or broadhead/fieldpoint only for wood arrows.

I start with a goal of 9-10 gr per pound draw weight and let arrow flight and noise determine the right combination.

Ryan: Enjoyed your video. Do you think padded loops are required for a 14 strand string?

I do bareshaft tuning with all of my bows, it works very well! I love watching a well tuned arrow in flight.

Yeah, I bareshaft tune with my stickbows. Its tricky as a rookie as your form isn't good enough and shows erratic during the tune process.

Once i'm tuned, i plug the specs into the Stu Miller Calculator [free online] with the form adjustment....that way if I want to change arrows its usually pretty right on.

In my recurve, if my bareshaft hit with FP's at 25 yds, my BH's have been right on too...which is nice.

I feel it depends on the material you're using. At first I started padding the loops because I was using a 14 strand 8125 and the bows I purchased had stock 16-18 strand DF97. I was just trying to build the loops similar in size so it would cause any damage to the limb tips.

After using it for years, I've found that it does quiet the bow a little and it make stringing/unstringing a easier, so I just ended up padding all my strings.
