In my particular case, I wasn't looking for the absolute tightest possible pattern, as I was looking for long range duck, goose and pheasant loads. But out of this particular gun/barrel, I did in fact try improved modified and then full chokes, but the patterns didn't get any tighter than this (96% density at 40 yards). But everybody's mileage will vary on this I'm sure!I have shot a pile of pattern checks with several different shotguns and none of them have shot worth a crap with a more open choke. Folks always say to try your factory full or modified choke first, but I have found that to be a waste of components.
I get the best patterns(tightest patterns) from the tighter chokes.
