I just bought a set of combo locks from lowes. I prefer the combo lock instead of a key, incase you lose/forget the key.
TSA approved locks are not required.
I also read somewhere that you need to have all the locks installed on the case if there's room for them, I'm not sure if this is accurate info, just something I read previously, but can't remember where. Example: my pelican case for my rifle has 4 lugs to attach locks to, so I run 4 locks all with the same combo.
because they are moronsWeird question , if the tsa checks your case before you fly why would they need to get back into the case afterwards ?
I once accidentally left a bench made pardue hunter in a pocket of a bag when traveling. Some young tsa agent was really over the top helpful getting it put in their mailer thing so I could get it back. Never saw it again, him or someone else yanked that thing out of the system. My favorite knife I ever had and limited run.
Yes you can. You can put anything you want in there, even a gun and, gasp, ammunition. Just don't put the ammunition in the gun. Keep it in it's own happy place. So I can’t have my hunting knife in the gun case ?
At some airports you do not have the option. You can use non-TSA locks and have to wait 20 minutes at the check-in area in case they need your keys to open your case to inspect your stuff behind closed doors, or you can use TSA locks and go right on to security. There is no way in hell I would ever use TSA locks. I dont want anybody messing with my firearms unless I am watching them.
You always have the option - I have flown all over the country with my rifle, maybe 50 or so flights and have never used a TSA approved lock on my gun case. Get to the airport 20 min early if you think you need to - well worth it. I have never had them inspect it behind closed doors. I have always been there and been able to watch them do it.At some airports you do not have the option. Good idea on putting your phone # on the outside of the case.
