Who exactly will this "casual thief" be between the TSA and it physically going on the airplane? Firearms are in a secure area from the time you drop them off until you get them from the luggage agent at your arrival airport. If somebody behind the scenes is going to steal it I would think it would go case and all. And to be honest with you, I haven't locked my house in 15 years and my parents haven't locked theirs in 40. Never had a problem and if I ever do then that's why I pay an insurance premium. Living rural, if somebody is going to break in they are going to break in. If they were to come in while I am home that might open up a whole new level of problems for them so it would be a risk/reward thing. Hell, I even leave the keys in my vehicles in the yard in case somebody breaks down and needs to get somewhere.Do you lock the doors of your house at night? Do you think that will stop someone who really wants to break into your house? You may as well leave the door wide open because they can get in if they want to.
Am I following your logic correctly?
TSA locks are easily opened by anyone with a TSA key. Non-TSA locks are much more difficult to get around. Is it going to stop a determined thief? No. Is it going to deter a casual thief? Absolutely.

I travel multiple times a year with firearms and am only stating what I feel works best for me. I have no problem if others wish to do things differently as it doesn't effect me in the least.
