Trying out a GPO passion scope

Put a GPO passion 4x 6-24x50mm scope on my browning lever 270. Set at 500 yards. Using 130 sst.
Any thoughts or advice?

A case of function over form? I'd personally never scope a lever gun with a tube like that, but it's not my gun.. Have you actually shot that rifle for accuracy out to 500 yards?

No not yet it was set up that way. Any advice is very much appreciated. Im just messing around with things right now.

Sure can’t hurt to try. Might just surprise you. Curious on how that scope tracks and stays zero’d for you. They’re making some interesting offerings these days.

Post pics of groups at 100 & 500 yards…..personally I don’t think that lever gun will be a consistent deer killer at 500 yards….but I’ve been wrong before.

Doubt the scope is the weakest link in the chain~

Here is where the mystery starts. I had the scope put on at a reputable gun shop. They asked me how I would like it set up. Not sure what they did. This is new to me as you can tell. I went from rifle to bow hunting years ago and now messing around with rifles again.

Understood. First, let me solve that mystery for you: there's not a snowball's chance in hell that scope is set up correctly. If you're determined to use that rifle then start here.

What tube? Brownings have box mags.

I have 9 BLRs scoped from 22-250 up to 300wsm. Last 10ish years I've limited myself to 400 yards. Before I got shaky, I wouldn't have been scared to send one 500 yards at a deer.

I'm not saying that the gun isn't capable. I was just genuinely curious if it's been shot that far. I had a blr made in 1974 I think it was, in 308 that would group multiple loads into an inch or less. It definitely was not as easy to shoot as a bolt action for accuracy and consistency but it could be done.

I actually just picked up a Henry Long Ranger in 6.5 creedmoor a couple of weeks ago that I haven't gotten out yet. It'll be interesting to see how it does. I like the fact that the trigger doesn't drop out when you run the lever like it does on the Browning, and the trigger pull is 3.5 lb from the factory, and while not bolt action perfect, it's a pretty damn good trigger by feel. It's not going to be set up as a long range rifle per se, but we'll see how it goes and how effective I am at shooting it.

Did you ever set the Henry up and determine a cone? A friend had to have one and I set it up for him. Neither of us could get better than a 3” group of 5 shots. Henry replaced the barrel and same issue. Curious how yours has shot.

Even if they shoot well (I've never shot one, but have seen BARs do well) you have to understand that the heavy trigger, the slow lock time, the two-piece stock, and the straight stock grip, are all working against you from a precision standpoint.

I get that people of a certain age and socioeconomic background see Browning rifles as venerated objects of high social status, but at the end of the day.....that's not where I'd start if I wanted to reliably hit stuff at 500 yards. YMMV.
