Getting ready to order up some shafts for the season.

29" Mathews V3 31 67#

Archers Advantage says with 150 total up front & a 28" arrow i'd be "optimum" shaded towards stiff (see below).....I can't imagine being able to shoot a 340 with fixed heads, always shot 300's but wanted to run some #'s before I spend a bunch of money on arrows & components.

There is usually a bunch of disclaimers that end up bumping people up a spine with modern compounds. All of that data was compiled long ago when bows were not producing near the numbers they are today. Spine is a tricky one because technically there isn't such thing as too stiff or too weak. Stiffer just makes everything easier when you plug a broadhead on the front.

I shoot similar specs and find that while I can tune a 340, its just much easier with a 300. I also like the idea of still being ok if I increase some poundage or point weight some.

I shoot a V3X 33 at 67lb and shoot gold tip 7555(340 spine) with a 100 grain head and 100gr worth of insert. total arrow weight is 510 if i remember right and mine shoot great with fixed heads.
I have been playing around some and took 50 grain out to see how those do and havent shot BH through it yet.
Mine with the heavy arrow also said to shoot a 300 spine but I never tried as mine was shooting great as they were.
I think the software charts get you close but thats pretty much as much as I use them.

Seems like a 300 spine would be a no brainer, however, I’ve never used software to do stuff with my bow.

qSpine/OT2Go output below for comparison. I would go 300 in your shoes, but I bet a 340 would also work just fine.

300 spine with 150 total up front puts me right at 480 which is close to where I wanted to be I’ll go with the 300’s.

Black Eagles weren’t shooting great, pretty good but not perfect plus I broke/lost a few on game this past season so back to the old reliable Axis!

I should mention the arrows that broke weren’t bad arrows they either crushed a rock after passing through or were inside the buck I shot & he broke them running past a tree

Tied d loop

I've always found that "Jaws Release" seems to be the correct option and matches what qSpine spits out. It tends to be slightly weaker than the "Tied Loop" option.

.340 spine all day for your specs!! Don't buy into the philosophy that you should always error on the stiffer side especially with a Mathews SW cam bow. I've found that optimal spine or slightly on the weak side gives a more level nock when tuning those bows. I'm shooting a .350 spine with a 66lb, 28" draw V3X29 and it shoots every fixed broadhead I've tried beautifully out to 80 yards. YMMV

Archer's Advantage has always been very accurate for my spine selection as long as my inputs are precise.

I don’t shoot a Mathew’s but close in other aspects to what you are shooting. 68# Hoyt, 28” draw, arrows cut 27 1/2”, Easton fmj’s 340, 75 grain insert, 100 grain broadhead. They shoot great! My other arrows are axis 340’s and shoot the same.

Tied Loop refers to D loop, jaws release means clipping directly to string. Most all should have Tied Loop selected.

Worth checking all arrow component specs too, vanes etc, made a big diff for me recently when switching to AAE Stealth 4 fletch.

Yeah I put in the IW hit & collar with their vanes as the options. I think I’m gonna go 300’s that should work fine.

Was between 300/340 in my axis 4mm, went with 300 and haven’t thought twice about it.

I shoot a Triax at 70 pounds 29" draw. Easton Axis 340's. I have shot 340's with multiple bows set the same way and it shoots money for me.

Weaker spine will never give you a better tune. It simply hides bad nock travel. Mathews has the best nock travel in the business so lighter spines are much easier to tune than some of the other systems on the market. However this idea that Mathews somehow prefer a weak shaft is ridiculous.
