I got a set of Falken WIldpeak AT4W 285/75/ R17 on last year for $1,225 from the Ford dealer I bought the truck from. Included new wheels and a Fox 2.0 install too though so not sure if there was any package discounting going on there.

You can save a lot of money by not buying 35"+ tires. Big tires provide no advantage on the highway and very little offroad unless the rig has been regeared.

I feel this. Nitto Grappler G2's were $198 a tire when I put them on my truck in 2020. The G3 is $291 a tire now

I know a guy who is a bit of a suspension wizz and he just moved from a wheel alignment shop to a tire shop and we were chatting and he was saying that the big issue is basically no competition at the wholesale end and that no stores get next to nothing on discounts etc and that he was really surprised.

Basically saying that all shops pay the same for a tires and the cheaper places just make less per tire its not like they buy in bulk and get a big saving.

this is in NZ tho so could be very different in usa

I guess I shouldn't be surprised with how crazy prices have gotten on things the last few years, but I am probably needing new tires before hunting season. My current tires are 275/60/20 BFG AT2. Purchased from Discount tire back in 2023 and a total out the door cost of around $1150.

This time I was thinking I would maybe move up to 275/65/20s - just a bit taller tire and since they are now the new option - look at the BFG AT3. Was looking last night and they are around $430 a tire!!!! That going to be around $1800 mounted and ready to go!!

Crazy tire prices have gone up as much as they have over the last couple of years....

America doesn't produce rubber and cannot produce rubber. However, Taco Bonespur sees fit to apply tariffs on rubber producing countries.

This is mostly accurate in the states and just 1 more of many reasons tires and many other goods have gotten so expensive.
With the exception of places like Costco/walmart/sams that still get "exclusive" tires not offered to the masses...that's a whole other conversation.
Every shop/dealer gets their tires from the same 5 or so wholesalers around here that deliver twice a day for the most part...some have better deals on certain brands or carry certain brands the others don't....its a huge racket in itself...most wholesaling is. This arrangement works well for the installer though as they don't have to keep a bunch of bulky tire inventory on hand and updated for the ever increasing/changing size/style offerings...little less convenient for customer as your not just pulling up and getting a tire or set of them at a moments notice in most situations unless your not picky and have very common size.
But it plays into the cost increase as these wholesalers have to run more delivery routes/vehicles and staffing so they dont offer anyone much for special pricing.
Alot of your big chains used to buy in bulk and keep inventory in their own warehouses to distribute inter-company...all good until your stacked with old stock thats not moving, maintaining the delivery fleet and managing/paying the extra staff to do it.
I think most places did the math and found out its more profitable and way easier to let someone else hold the inventory, delivery it when needed and just charge more and be slightly less convenient to the consumer....thats what we do.
You won't find much competition for the wholesale clubs price wise.
There still aren't great margins in tire work, but its enough to be worthwhile most of the time.
Tires are more an excuse to rack a vehicle, pull wheels and sell needed brake/steering/suspension repairs...thats what about anyone offering cheaper than normal tires is banking on...so are their techs, as they get paid ALOT more for those repairs than to chuck a set of tires on...keep that in mind.

I have this same talk with myself several times before i once again opt out of 35s and buy 33s.

I jsut put tires on mine this past Sept.
Mine are 35x12.50-20.
I put on Yokohoma Geolander A/T XD.
Mine was $1450.
So far I am really impressed with them. They are 22/32 deep new. Mine with 15,000 miles on them are at 17/32 at my last rotation. So they are wearing very well.

I put those on my F350 in December in 285/75R18. Fricking love them in every single condition so far here in Montana. Price was great also.

Just looked at specs on these, 3 ply sidewall. These will go on the short list for fall.

I put A tire on my daughter’s Honda yesterday, had an alignment done and new tpms and it was almost $500 at Les Schwab! WTH! I was blown away.

I feel the pain im putting tires on my truck once a year at 1400 last go around. Need to get a little light truck for work. The community roads just eat my tires up

I have been really lucky buying jeep wrangler take offs for my grand cherokee, I lifted the front an inch to fit a 32" tire, I have bought three sets of 5 rims and tires with sensors included with two of them, all under 500 bucks, all were driven on less than a month!

Getting harder to come by now though, am currently looking and many are too old once you get someone to give you the dot code! Dude had four barely worn ko2 for 180- bux but they were from 2020.

Hell yeah , I don’t have the same tires on all four corners
I have a mix of BFG at & cooper at3
But everything has a 10 ply E rating

Next set will be cooper at3 or Goodyear ultra terrain at

I purchased KO2s off Amazon in 2022. I shopped around and they had the best price with free shipping.
It looks like they have gone up $60 a tire since then. Not terrible with current inflation but that'll still sting when I have to get new rubber down the road.
