Truck Camping Set up ideas

I'm looking for ideas on truck bed camp set ups. I have a long bed extended cab chevy with a cap on it, that is taller towards the back, so I think it would provide decent headroom for overnights in the back of the truck. dry, comfortable with a mattress, or cot set up maybe. Looking for ideas on how to build a modular set up for storage underneath the bed, etc.

Lets see some of your DIY set ups, or how yall set up quick mobile camps using your truck as base camp without pulling a camp trailer or setting up a separate tent.

I am 5'7", so I sleep cross-ways on top of a bed height tool chest in the front. Lots of storage under the bed.......and leaves the rest of the bed open, and full height for chair use.

My diy setup is a 23ft. jayco ultra light trailer, much nicer to climb into after a hard days hunt.

Sound's like you need a set of drawers for storage and sleep on top them. Very popular here in Oz for wagons as well as beds and tray setups.

Here is my setup.
I made a partial deck that has storage underneath for my toolbox, chainsaw, misc items.
A thick foam pad to sleep on
Front side has a small deck that I can make coffee/heat water and not leave my sleeping bag
The side is big enough to slide in a 120qt cooler and all my gear

When I get to where Im going, put the cooler in the back seat.
I can sit on the bed and actually get dressed, put boots on.

A couple weeks ago I spent 4 days out in Nebraska archery hunting WT deer and stayed in here comfortably

One thing I would recommend is to put a small piece of carpet on the ground, to wipe your boots off to help keep dirt/debris out of the truck

I've had a cabelas tent cot for 9 years now, probably one of the best purchase' s I've made, its comfortable, warm, dry, and sets up in 5 minutes. I've put it on the quad, rode in 10 miles and slept in it.

Plus, my truck is available for use instantly.

All in all I've got 100 nights plus in it with no real complaints.

6.5' bed. Plenty of room for gear, coolers, and a low cot or pad. If I want a more extensive camp - I'll be using a Seek Outside Tipi that i can pull out and pitch next to the truck.

I set mine up a little higher so totes, coolers and other misc. stuff can fit under the bed.

Build a shelf across the bed and sleep under it with your stuff on top. We put one in using plywood and 2x4's and keep all of our traveling stuff on top with room underneath for other things we haul.

Every time I'm in a Cabelas I think real hard about getting one of those. It's comfortable and easy to set up. Sometimes I don't have a place off the trail to pitch a tent and I don't want to take all the stuff out of the back of my truck. However, that tent cot is just a little too big and bulky packed for my taste. If it could pack down like a briefcase like George Jetson's, I'd buy it.

I have the long bed Tacoma (6'). I found a smaller fold out cot that fits perfectly in the bed with the tailgate closed. I spent 7 weeks road tripping the west based out of this rig back in 2014. Probably have close to 100 nights now in it. Totes/Coolers go down one half of the bed stacked up, loose misc stuff goes under the cot. Climb in, shut the tailgate, then use a small bungee to hold the back glass down halfway for staying dry but keeping ventilation. Warm, Dry, Comfortable setup. No breaking camp, climb out the next morning, slip on your boots, and you are off.

Lol I take it you don’t do many backpacking hunts? It’s tight but reminds me of 2 man Mtn tents without the hassle of setup or breakdown.

I'm diggin the cot in the Taco. Im hopin the cots I already have will fit in mine. That almost looks palatial in comparison to sleeping in a bivy sack in a snow cave
