Tripod Height?

What do you guys prefer for your tripod height?

The tripod I've been using for the past couple years is around 21" closed and extends to 62". I can use it standing up if I need, and actually the 21" height means I only have to mess with 1 set of leg locks when I go to set it up for glassing while I'm sitting, which is nice.

I'm looking at getting a lighter tripod and I'm torn between two. One is 21"-61" and saves me right at a pound. The other I'm looking at is 14"-43", is probably a little better construction, and is a 1/2 pound lighter yet, meaning it saves me 1.5# from my current tripod, but I'm nervous I'm going to miss having the extra height.

Hoping guys here have used both sizes (and/or everything in between) and can give some advice..

How much do you use it standing?
I cannot stand with mine and dont feel that I am missing out on anything but I dont know any different.
If you think you'll miss standing in your style of glassing get the one that goes to 61.

I have maybe used it standing once or twice, but its definitely not the majority of the time or anything.. I was just curious if thats something other guys worry about, or if everyone uses a shorter tripod and gets by just fine without the option of standing.

I hardly ever stand, is that really a need or just a nice to have. Personally quality items at the lightest weight to me are more of a need. If you sit to glass 75% of the time that seems like an easy choice.

only time i’d consider standing is if your shooting your rifle off it with a hog saddle or the likes.

id go the shorter/lighter route for just glassing.

Our most popular tripod, the Promaster XC525C, carbon Fiber is about 15.5" closed and 55" with the headopen. Weighs about 2.7 lbs and can hold 13 lbs
Let me know if you have any other questions

One thing to consider.....

If you are glassing in steep terrain , a taller set of tripod legs are needed to make up for downhill legs while seated.

I hate running center column too high on my slik 634. Much more solid with lower center column position.

Never found my self wishing for less height or adjustability with my set up. Jmho.

Never thought about that... taller than what the Slik Spirit Mini would have?

I'm torn between the Spirit Mini and something like the Slik Pro II or a Vanguard CX 204.

I don't have any experience with the ones you mentioned.

I run the slik 634. I glass from a lot of cliffs and regularly extend at leas one leg nearly full length down hill while seated.
