As an eastern hunter accustomed to the tight confines of the "big woods", I did not have a spotter nor any real experience using one prior to my BC mountain goat hunt last August. I added a spotter (Swarovski 20-65x) at the last moment (a deal I couldn't turn down) just before leaving for the trip and added a Manfrotto Mt055XPro3 tripod with a Manfrotto 128RC head on the advice of the local optics store.
Althought it performed well, the tripod seemed bulky and heavy for what is a relatively small spotting scope. Are there better options that still retain the stability needed to glass effecitvely?
