I've been reading this forum for a while now and have got some great insight from you guys. So, I finally decided to become a member myself. I'm looking for a new tripod for my spotting scope and binos. I run the Vortex Viper 20x60x80 spotter, and i'm looking for a new tripod. Im trying to get a nice setup for $200 or less. Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

Are you looking for a model that allows you to stand up and use? I've had great luck with my Siriu T-025x for several years now. You can sometimes find deals on them under $200

Not necessarily, most of my glassing is done while sitting down. Ive been looking at the Siriu line but haven't been sure which tripod would handle my gear best.

If you're looking to stay under $200 with a head, that'll get trickier. I run an Outdoorsman Pan Head on my Sirui, but the factory head wasn't too bad, it just takes practice with the heavier spotters to get it locked down and stay on target.

Yeah, Im also open to using the factory head if it's adequate.

If you can stretch the budget just a little after, doing a lot of reading I went with the Promaster 525 carbon model. It comes with a ball head which might get you by for a bit....I opted for the promaster cine 20 head as well as recommended by Camera land and they do a good price on that kit. I didnt have the funds for the outdoorsman set up at the moment. I also have a slik 700dx on hand but it's too bulky for a pack (should have thought of that) I think I'll buy a pig saddle for that one and turn it into a dedicated rifle rest tripod.

Camera Land said that this set up will be fine with my Meopta S2

Have you found a tripod setup yet? S&S Archery has a Sirui "Backcountry Combo" for $299 but there is a $30 mail in rebate which puts it closer to your $200 limit. It features the VA-5 fluid head which is ridiculously nice and $165 on its own but the kit includes a good, lightweight carbon fiber tripod as well.

Pretty smoking deal. Sirui Backcountry Combo

How important is weight, Are you looking for something light, or ultra light?

If you keep your eyes out, you can usually find an open box Promaster 525 for that price range. It comes with a good ball head and is an amazing tripod for the price. You can later upgrade to a good lightweight fluid head like the Sirui VA5. I'm sure the guys at cameraland could steer you in the right direction if you give them a call.

This is what I did. Got an older model Promaster XC-525C for under $200 from Cameraland. So far its held up great. The factory head is definitely usable and thats what I ran on my hunt last year. I did get the VA-5 head for this year.
