I bought an SRO when they first came out. That was about 4-5 years ago. Finally had to send it in after a lot of hard use on my 10mm and G34. The buttons quit working. It'd power on but that's it.

Without social media I end up watching a lot of gun vids on the Tube.

I'm seeing several videos showing the glass on the SRO it's very durable. Wouldn't pass a Rokslide test.

I ended up buying a second SRO before I saw these videos.

Wondering if I should go to just an RMR or an RMR HD or Aimpoint for more durability. Especially if the gun doesn't have backup irons.

Really love Trijicon. I do own some Holosun. A couple small carbine dots and they've been good. Wouldn't want to do any Tom Clancy super secret door kicker stuff with them.

Anyone physically break an SRO?

I've had RMRs and been very happy with them, especially in terms of durability. But I wanted to upgrade in window size, and went with an RMR HD over the SRO because of the durability issues you're mentioning. Next RDS will be an RCR, to give an enclosed optic a go. I've been extremely happy with the HD though.

I did pick up a small CCW-style enclosed Holosun, and with my eyes the bloom on the green dot was so bad it was unusable. Had to exchange it. Lesson: try before you buy.

My astigmatism really sets off the halo on the green dot.

I don't think the SRO was ever marketed to be the most durable option. RMR was the choice for that. That said, I have one that has worked great. I don't baby it but I'm not slamming it around either. I see the SRO as more of a hunting optic and RMR as the duty grade. I would like to try an RCR as well but I'm happy with my Acro for enclosed work.

Interesting about the green dot. I have astigmatism as well and green seems better than red. I'm sure it depends on type and degree though.

The astigmatism is why I have to use a dot. Man I can only see XS sights on a pistol. Otherwise it's a blur. Dots tend to be fuzzy or star burst a little but not enough to effect anything.

I’ve got an astigmatism and have shot SROs since they came out without any issues. I get the least distortions with them than anything else with green dots being the worst. Unless it’s a duty weapon I don’t see the drop test being an issue. In 56 years I’ve somehow managed not to drop my pistol from shoulder height onto concrete while hunting, shooting USPSA, IDPA, 3 gun etc… I think that only happens if you wear 5-11 pants.

I’ve had SROs on my guns for years. I’ve beaten them up, carried them daily, carried them in the back country, competed with them- haven’t broken one yet.

I do have RMR HDs now moving forward because they weren’t available before. But I’m not replacing any of my SROs with the HDs anytime soon.

The RCR is meh in my opinion but if you need enclosed optics not made in China, your options are limited.
