Trijicon credo hx 2.5-15 vs Leica amplus 3-18

He also could have mounting issues that caused kind of variance.

I would like to know if the rifle shot well with the same rings, but a different scope.
Tally style ring mount system. Not much to go wrong there. Shook it to see if there was a broken mounting screw. Wiggled everything and nothing was obviously loose. Ring caps were all tight. I loosened them and retorqued to 20 in/lb. Checked the action screws and they were all over 45 in/lb. He didn't want me to tear it apart cause he paid a gunsmith a bunch of money to put it all together and he wants that guy to fix it. He wants me to do his next build even if it is just a factory rifle that has been proofed with quality add ons, taken apart and degreaseed, and torqued to spec.

Definitely have to check many different parts of the system.
My issue is that when he brought it down 3 MOA, it was still 4" high. His left and right moved when adjusted but the vertical stayed high. I honestly wasn't too involved in him proofing his rifle out as I had my own issues I was working on. My Jeep wouldn't start after we stopped to shoot and I was trying to get someone to come give me a jump start. Turns out that my alternator took a dump sometime while we were driving that day. When my nephew jumped me the jeep fired right up but wasn't charging. Nephew gave me a ride to town and I got my other truck and a battery and alternator. Drove back out in the mountains and changed the battery and alternator in 35 minutes and headed back to town. New to me jeep so I'm glad that happened while it was in the 40's and not -10⁰. When I got it pulled out the regulator had bunch of corrosion and when they ran the diagnostic test for warranty there was no communication from the regulator to the rectifier.

Sorry to hear about the vehicle troubles. I would love to hear how this all plays out in the end. There are plenty of companies that make high end optics that don’t make reliable scopes. It would be a shame if Leica was one of them.

I would like to know if the rifle shot well with the same rings, but a different scope.

I’m very skeptical of it being barrel tenon or ring issues. V-Seven upper, V-seven handguard, proof research barrel properly installed including triple torque, and Primary Arms PLX scope mount (which is quite beefy).

Once the scope settled down, and was readjusted, it was good for hits out to 1000yds. I had no issues with zeroing or shooting the Tenmile that replaced it, but I have not dropped that yet to verify. Maybe next range trip.

The clear hysteresis in scope adjustment behavior during and well after the drops rules out weapons platform issues in my mind. The groups weren’t opening up, they were moving.

I run the credo hx MOA on my 6.5cm. I’m happy with it. If I had a complaint it would be that the elevation turret clicks feel kind of mushy. I’m going to take the o ring off one day and see how it feels.

That is why I had him shoot my rifle before I made a decision to post anything. He was good to go with my systems (6.5CM and 223) so something in his system is problematic.

Build details:
Bergara B-14 Ridge Wilderness CF in 7mm PRC
Leupold brand Tally type ring/mount
Leica Amplus 3x18x44i with L-4w BDC reticle
Federal Premium 175-grain ELD-X loaded ammo

The rifle issues soured him for the rest of the trip. He quit hunting 2 days early and went shopping and sight seeing and left this morning instead of this evening. He didn't even want to truck camp like we had planned to keep us closer to the hunting area so we just stayed at my house in town. It didn't bother me too much cause the days he didn't hunt, my wife and daughter were in town so I took them instead. It just proves that a good backup gun can save a trip both physically and mentally. I'm sure if he had brought a good backup rifle it wouldn't have been such a let down to him.

This is the 2nd high dollar scope he has had fail on him. Last time he brought a rifle that had a Zeiss Conquest on it and he had issues with it. He had to return it when he got home and got a new one sent to him. He sold it new in the box and bought the Leica. Bought a new rifle (his other Custom 7mm PRC was too heavy for mountain hunting) and now there is issue with it. We did see game so that wasn't an issue. He did say after it wouldn't shoot that he wanted to beat the rifle into a horseshoe and then get in his truck and go drive a 1000 miles back home... Equipment failures can really break a hunt.

For what its worth, I have two Leica Amplus scopes which perform great. They dial accurately, return to zero, and have held zero the entire time I've owned them. One took a massive beating during a midnight pack out (it was a spill that sent me to the E.R. for stitches on my face), and zero was off by less than an inch (.4 MOA) at 200 yards. The elevation and parallax turrets had external damage but both continued to function without error. The next evening I shot a bear with a quick off-hand shot at close range. I've been impressed with the Amplus 6 scopes thus far.

Both of mine have been great and have taken multiple animals, but have not stayed on their rifles after I saw what happen during the drop.

It’s a shame too, because I really liked the scopes. Their only real drawback was the SFP reticles. I was really impressed with the glass on them. I was hoping the made in Portugal aspect would make a difference, but that didn’t play out in my case.
