Hello everyone!

I'm interested in purchasing the Accupoint 3-9x40 for my Savage 220 for whitetail hunting. My eyes aren't the very best, especially in dawn/dusk time which is why I'd love having an illuminated dot. I currently have a Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7x33 mounted and I haven't had any issues with it. Mainly looking for a QOL upgrade than necessity.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with mounting the Trijicon on a heavier powered firearm.

Thanks!

So you’re probably in the same boat I am. I hunt the cartridge restricted portion of MI. I’ve moved into a 450 bushmaster with a 3-9x40 trijicon accupoint. These trijicons will do just fine on higher powered guns. I like the concept of these accupoints, several guys in our camp run them on their 450s. I’m probably moving to a 1-6 accupoint for next season. I prefer the lower power for where I hunt. There’s a chance my brother will be purchasing my 3-9 for using on his savage 220. But if you want, shoot me a pm, if he doesn’t buy it I can shoot you over a price and pics.

Beautiful buck! I appreciate the feedback. What do you think about the scope for close range, say around 15-20yds?

Thank you for the offer, but I’ll have to pass!

I shot my buck today with that scope at 23 yds on 3 power, no issues at all. my eye just goes to the dot. be aware it does get dimmer to almost go away during the daylight but duplex is fine an I have eye issues

I use a 1-6 vortex pst on my 220. It has a an illuminated red dot that is great in low light. Im not shooting that gun over 150 yards so 6x on the high power is more than enough. I really like 1x or 1 1/2 x on those short shots. Helps me keep my target in the scope after the shot.

So the 3-9 I have is the post style reticle with an amber triangle. I set mine up with a 100yd zero where the top tip of the triangle is the zero. So at short range you can kinda shoot it as a red dot. A sub ~75 yd shot the bullet will land below the zero making the center of the amber triangle the aiming point. I like it. For me and where I hunt shorter shots are far more likely. So I’m probably going to pick up the 1-6 accupoint and throw it on the 450 for next year.

I went with a 3x9 amber post Trij on my Rem 760 in 30-06. By removing the factory rear sight I was able to mount the scope with original low Weaver rings Anyhow. The amber post is excellent for off hand shooting or on the bench, especially with older eyes. The brilliance of the Amber post fades add dusk and it works well at last light. At 25 yards you can still place the entire deer in the scope. The post is simple. Just like a front blade and iron sights. Hundreds of rounds, perfect zero at top of post.

I would personally prefer lower magnification than 3x for 15-20 yards. I moved on my credo 3-9 in favor of a 1-6 accupoint for a rifle I use like that, very happy with the switch. Tons of guys use accupoints on 30-06’s, 7mags, 35 whelen, etc. slug guns recoil a lot but I doubt you’ll have an issue with the scope due to recoil.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 on my 9.3x62. Trijicon mechanics are built battlefield tough.
The glass is a bit better than Leupold IMO.

How is the dusk performance on these 3-9x 40 Trijicons? Had been looking at the Credo 2.5-10 x56 to maximize light. Made the mistake of an Arken on my 450 BM this years and could see a buck perfectly well with my eyes at about 15 min left in legal shooting and couldn't resolve him in the scope. Looking to upgrade

I will start off saying that I mean no disrespect but am only seeking to understand, In the west, a 3-9x scope is a 50-300 yd scope. Your cartridge limitations seem to be aimed at 150 yds or so max. Antlers are antlers, what are you attempting to spot with a 9x at 150 yds?

Much better than my Leupold to which I’d assume is from the bigger objective size. I don’t have the worst vision, but I’m practically SOL at dawn and dusk. I’m pretty much night blind lol. Latest I’ve been able to get a good sight picture is about 15-30min before last light, but that’s just because of my own eyes.

No disrespect at all. My problem lies within my vision. I wanted something beefier with a larger lens than the Leupold I had on. Like I mentioned to another user, I don’t have the worst eyes, but dawn and dusk I’m SOL. My eyes are also weird in that my left eye is far sighted and my right eye is near sighted. And with my luck, I’m right eye dominant. I could wear my glasses but they fog up like crazy so I end up not wearing them at all. I get very dry eyes with contacts as well.

Any increase in optical clarity and magnification helps in my case, even if they’re only 30 yards out. Plus eurooptic was running a sale on them which would’ve been cheaper than military discount at the time anyway.

Sounds like the 56mm objective on the 2.5-10 might help you with the dusk vision.

I'd go with the simple accupoint 2.5-10x56 with amber dot. Bought 1, then another, then 2 more.
I would have bashed the Arken on a tree. No hunting scope costing more than $100 should be worse than your eyes in low light.
