I have never bought new because I couldn’t afford it, but I have bought them used and they have been outstanding.

I have never tried RRS tripods (supposed to be great) but I have a feeling at these levels they all perform about the same.

Good reviews HERE.

Copy that. Might be good to look at Leofoto or Sirui series 3 tripods if buying new. Unless you are comfortable buying used, then eBay or a photography forum might be your friend.

Keep your eyes out of an older Vortex Skyline, they are awesome tripods, 5lbs with the fluid-filled head. They discontinued them several years ago but they have a lifetime warranty so Vortex stocks warranty stock. I have used mine for hundreds of hours and it's been packed all around in my pack, used for family pictures, used as a shooting platform.

The best bet would be the Slik 824CF legs with the Gitzo 2 way fluid head. On sale thru Thursday. You can stand no problem and the carbon fiber will absorb a lot of vibration on windy days.
Normally the price is $544.87. We can do it during the sale for $469.99

Give me a call to discuss all of the options that would work for you

I have a Manfrotto 055cxpro3 with a mvh502ah fluid head for sale in the optics classifieds. It's a great tripod for tall guys! And bomber with binos, spotter, or shooting. PM me if you're interested.

Does anyone know why Vortex abandoned that particular tripod? I hadn't been terribly impressed with their tripods or bino adapters and all the other non-glass items they sell as far as quality, but they get the job done for an affordable price until you can afford better. Fortunately, they are starting to get better quality accessories.
