Trespassing = $$$ paid to the landowner?

I had a guy walk into my land, right past two No Trespassing signs and caught him on multiple trail cams. Obvious shed hunter. I posted on Facebook to see if anyone knew him (mostly just so someone that does will share it with him and let him know he's a documented jack@ss)...

I was blown away that half the comments were people like you that seemingly did not agree with the concept of private property when it comes to land. None would offer their home address to invite anyone in though. Eye opening to hear some of the rationale that people use to justify trespassing while hunting (poaching).

Don’t get it misconstrued, friend. Just because I don’t cheer for your favorite football team, doesn’t mean I’m a fan for their conference rivals. I frankly don’t give a damn about any political ideology. I do not align myself, nor swear any allegiance to any formal government. Why would I?
 
The ranch ownerr where I used to hunt antelope would snag trespassers and tell them, "you can pay me and go on your way, or you can pay the game warden and lose your license". He always made a few hundred bucks. I had no problem with it for two reasons: 1) it was his land, and he was free to choose how to handle unauthorized entry, and 2) he freed the thinly-spread wardens to handle bigger problems.

The legal system exists to sort things out when people cannot or will not do it themselves. It is not perfect, but it ia better than anarchy and vigilante justice. Since the parties in this case were able to agree on compensation, the legal system could move on to more important issues.
 
I'm sure the hunters (non-residents ) would rather pay than have to return multiple times for court. Just a thought. And yes trespassing is trespassing any way you slice it. Is trespassing in Idaho a civil infraction or criminal?
 
Trespassing gets you a fine, why shouldn’t it go to the landowner? At least a portion of it.

There’s no federal property tax. Only a state one.

All ownership is predicated on having force to defend your rights. In this case, we, as a society, have decided that having the state enforce those rights beats having to defend them against all comers. I’ve been to enough places without the rule of law, thank you very much. Respect for property rights is a fundamental basis for a free society.
