Trekking poles

^ most trekking poles you can put on rubber tips, quiets them down a fair bit

I just got them off of Amazon. The ones above are the twist lock. I got the carbon fiber Flip lock cork ones for 42.99. I haven't took them out of the package yet, just showed up last night.
They have the same brand in aluminum for 22.99
Are the aluminum any good?

Brands aside, I like carbon, cork handles and the fixed length Z design. Super compact, very light and never move/collapse unexpectedly. They're also quite a bit quieter. No rattling if you accidentally tap a branch or rock. I've purchased a decent number of different trekking poles (mostly higher end), sold a bunch of them after testing. I will compromise on pole material (aluminum vs carbon) and handle material (cork vs foam), but I won't on design. Fixed is the way to go for me. When going down steep terrain with a heavy pack I've had those adjustable poles move on me no matter how hard I cranked them down. The adjustable ones don't move often, but often enough under the wrong conditions. If you're in super steep country with a heavy pack where a wrong step could have serious consequences you never want a pole to move. Just my 2 cents.

If you're not in a rush, there's some killer deals that come across Sierra Trading Post. I think my current pair were normally something like $150 marked down to $60 for a pair. Love them.
