Trekking pole recommendations?

I've used quite a few makes and models over the years. I had been running the BD Alpine cork models, but lost a lower section flicklock clamp in some nasty alders. Tried contacting BD to no avail. I'll be going back to my other tried and true Komperdells. Not sure which model, but they have aluminum lower section, carbon upper and go taller than most other models out there. Very handy for tarp setup or steep stuff.

I've used Cascade Carbon trekking poles from Costco for many years. In fact, I once agreed that trekking poles were just trekking poles - until I recently had a friend gift me a set of Black Diamond Alpine Cork trekking poles, which I've used for bear hunting a good deal this spring. I have to admit, I should have spent the stupid money they ask for the BD poles years ago. Their stiffness, locks and and the strap adjustment system are incredibly superior to the trekking poles I've used in the past - so much so that I now think they might be worth their retail value.

Pretty much only used Cascade Carbon since I started western hunting in 2018 but I managed to break one pretty much every season. In 2025 I got the Durston poles and they survived that season? Maybe the price makes me more careful with them lol

Several years ago I broke the tip section on one of my BD Alpine Carbon Cork poles and replacement for that section cost me over $40, and it took about 7 weeks to get it. After that experience, I've avoided buying anything BD since.

And that's a fair point, for sure. It would probably sour me on the brand as well. Thanks for letting me know what I'll be up against if that ever happens to mine.
