Treestands?

I am a Whitetail hunter from NJ. Doing my first archery elk hunt in Colorado next week.

Should I bring my hang on stands for myself and my son? I know most people either call or spot and stalk. I don’t see myself calling after practicing for the last couple of months I don’t feel the sounds are consistent enough. I can see myself spot and stalk and still hunt but it’s not my strong suit since most properties we hunt are under 100 acres in NJ.

If all you want is to kill an elk then Treestand hunting would be my # 1 choice! Active water sources & freshly used trails to & from feeding & bedding areas as well as escape routes! Location, location, location!

Yes, bring stands & a couple trail cameras. No need to be more than 1 mile from dirt roads in darker timber country to find great spots!

Thanks ElkNut! I have been using your app and it’s been a great resource. I have been practicing and sound like your example and then the next time I screw up the tongue pressure and it’s a loud screech when it should be quieter. I will get it but just not completely confident in myself yet. Love the scenarios and tactics you’ve got on it too!

I would bring the stand but mobile. Lots of guys kill elk that don’t call well. I can’t remember cam Haynes ever doing more than a cow call.
