Can someone recommend a good tree stand harness? I'm going to finally use my tree stand (this next season)I've had in the garage for 8 yrs now... Thanks!

A rock climbing harness is a lot less of a pain imo. You can put a jacket on or off no problem. They are also more comfortable and lighter.

Black Diamond Couloir - Adjustable, light and can be donned and doffed over any boots or clothing.

I use a Black Diamond Alpine BOD harness and a few of the looped tethers of appropriate length to hook into my climbing rope.

I like my Hunters Safety System, it's served me well for years. Make sure you check out your stand good for corrosion on cables etc and for any dry rot in the straps.

Thanks for all the info guys! Never thought about a rock climbing harness. Thanks again!

The Hunter Safety System harness i have is pretty good to go. It has several small pockets on the front that come in handy when i am in my stand. Never tried a rock climbing harness, in fact I have never heard of that before....for those that use it, what made you switch to it? Do you rock climb in the off season and use it during hunting season?

Yes I started wearing mine because I had it for the occasional climbing that I do. I really can't see a downside. I just bought a piece of dynamic rope and tied loops in it and use a locking carabiner to clip my harness to it.

I have both and for the limited amount of stand hunting I do I prefer the rock climber. Thether to the back or to the front tie in loop with the rope run around the back. Less bulk, less to get in the way of you getting to pockets, Binos, snacks, etc.

one of my daughters is a rock climber and asked why I would use that mass of webbing when a rock climbing harness is so much simpler, more comfortable and better for self-rescue if I do fall. So I tried it and it was an easy switch.

LostArra, thanks for the info. That is what I like about this side, I never heard of people using a setup like that before, but it does sound like it has some benefits.

So I looked at the rock climbing harnesses, question i have, are y'all using some kind of shock absorbing tether with them? If not you are asking for trouble if you ever actually fall! I ordered a new harness this morning after thinking about how old my current harness is. One I ordered pretty much looks like the full body rock climbing harnesses and has a shock adorning tether. I had some fall training at one of the jobs I had some years back, and the amount of energy exerted on the body is mind boggling, I can't remember the amount of times the body weight was multiple by, but it ended up being in the thousands of pounds when you hit the end of a Non shock absorbing tether. Be safe out there!

I've got the muddy one a really really like it. It's comfortable, low profile, light and simple

I tether in with a daisy chain climbers web or a length of climbing web tied to length. Fall from a stand should be 4-5 feet max.
