Traveling with Firearms from NYC

Hello Guys,
Coming up with a question,
Does anyone has a recent experience traveling with a Firearms (long rifle) from NYC airports (JFK or Laquardia)?
We are planning international trip and what I am hearing is that NYC is pretty bad coming to the airport with the Firearms,
I have been traveling domestically with the Firearms, always fallow the rules, but never from NYC and I am not a NY resident as well. I am CT resident with a Hangun permit and firearms permit.
Or should I avoid the NYC and go from Boston ,those are my closes biggest airports.
Any advice really appreciated,

Bolt gun Has not been a problem for me. They took a hard look at a semi auto shotgun once and I had some issues with a handgun. They will check mag capacity. But make sure the ammo is in a different bag (not in case with the gun) and remove the bolt if youn can (Makes it easier to show it is unloaded).

for domestic flights, Your airline will do the form and such and then call the port authority police. They will come over and run the gun and your license and escort you to the TSA Who X-ray the case like anywhere else and then you are good. Pretty sure it is the same for international. I don’t know what it is like to fly back in with your gun from international but for domestic, you pick it up from the secured baggage counter of the airline.

add at least a 1/2 hour for that police inspection process. Maybe more if you are nervous because sometimes it takes a while for the PA police to arrive.

Your drivers license. They run the gun serial number to see if it is stolen and your drivers license for outstanding warrants. You can bring whatever gun licenses you like but I have never been asked for one.

They right down the serial number, ask some questions and then make a radio call. 2-30 minutes later someone comes back and says you are good to go and then they walk you and the gun over to TSA. I think it is meant to be fairly painless and I dont think they pay much attention to obvious hunters. they are usually pretty polite and easy to deal with.

Was your trip recently..?
Now I have to find what to do after coming back to the chantry from the hunting trip

I have flown in and out of NYC area airports going back 20 years. 1-3x per year with a gun, depending on my hunts that year. Last time was October.
