Headed to BC for a spring bear hunt the first week of June. The Outfitter has been most helpful with the paperwork necessary for getting our rifles into Canada, but the issue I’m having is navigating the return to the US and what paperwork is necessary there. I hunted Saskatchewan in 2001, but it’s a whole different world now I’ve learned.

Any help or guidance y’all could give would be much appreciated if you’ve traveled to Canada in the last year or two with rifles. Thanks!

I’m not sure but I hunt Mexico every year stop on the us side and register with them before you cross then just check back with them when you inter the states again. It’s a 15 minute deal. Good luck on your hunt!

All you should need is you CBP4457 form. https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2017-Jun/CBP Form 4457_0.pdf

I can't tell you about BC but the process coming in to the US is fairly easy. We traveled to Iceland with our shotguns last October. You will need to get the form signed in advance its not advisable to do it the day your flying but possible. I did mine weeks in advance and laminated it. They don't expire so once you get it for a certain rifle and scope set you can keep it for the life of the weapon basically. Be descriptive and list all items that will be with the gun that have any value, ie scopes, expensive bipods etc. I would also keep all of your Canada stuff until your safely back at home. The CBP officer did glace at our Iceland liscences for 2 seconds even though she didn't need them.

When I left the US I think there was a declaration form for the US listing the serial number, that way you can prove you didn’t buy it in Canada on the way back. Canada didn’t even do that, looked at the paper, $25, on my way.

Its simple, I do it twice per year. No additional paperwork is necessary coming back into the US.
