TrailBlazer Sawvivor

No worries. Thanks for looking. Any idea what the third blade was for? I think I will just pick up some 18" Wyoming saw blades from Cabela's and make my own bone blade. Seems to be cheap at $9 for two blades so I will have an extra.

Great idea!

I have no idea on the third blade.

We had to cut some pretty good sized blow down out of the way to get to my bull last year. The Sawvivor worked like a champ. A couple of the trees we cut aren't even in the picture.

On a side note. Why does this website only allow me to attach such shitty resolution pics from TapaTalk?

Call Sawvivor and see what they say. Two years ago I couldn't find them anywhere. I put it on the Xmas list and my wife called them. I don't recall what they said, but told her something about a change in production or change in location. They weren't going out of business. They still got her one before Xmas.

Very nice design. Compact, light weight, stable and the handle doesn't get in the way while cutting (ie those "A" frame saws you see). So you can cut with the full length of the blade. Wyoming saws are a close second. Equally good quality, but little heavier and the design isn't as compact.

FYI... Sawvivor (trail blazer) went out of business a year or so ago.

gsotis,

don't know if your are open to alternative ideas, if so have you looked at silky saws. they make 4 sizes of folders - i think they are flat out the best saws made. i must have near 20 saws including some old bow saws and take down bow saws like seven 21 - my silky pocketboy 6.7"/8oz, gomboy 8.5"/12oz and bigboy 14"/16oz will out cut anything i have, or used short of pro equipment, i stumbled on them talking with an arborists, then watched some vids and now own 7 of them. they stow easily in a pack and are simple, but expensive.

I thought I would follow up real quick regarding the bone saw for anyone that digs this thread up later. As suggested, I picked up some Wyoming Saw blades from Cabela's that come in a 2-pack for 8.99 or so.

Here is one next to the stock Sawvivor wood blade.

And here it is cut down with new holes drilled.

Here it is installed on the saw. You may notice that I switched the handle around a little as I hated having the red twist knob thing below the grip. It tended to dig into my hand.

Thank you! What type of bit did you use? Did you start the hole with a punch?

That's a great idea for the handle. I'm going to do that.

First I should note that I cut down the original wood blade so that it would fit nicely inside the saw without sticking out. That is why there is only one hole on one side. So, when making the bone blade, I just traced the same basic size and hole pattern. Looking back, that was really not necessary and caused me a bit of effort to drill two holes instead of just one. Anyway, I just used whatever bi-metal bits I had lying around. I used a little oil but I am sure I dulled them down a bit. Anyway, I did start with an awl to punch a dimple to start the drilling. Then I just started with small bits and worked up. For the last bit of the holes I used a step bit to get nice round holes but that isn't absolutely necessary. With a little work, both blades fit inside the saw for storage but you have to have the teeth facing opposite directions and the blades offset slightly.

Which one would you recommend to cut wood for a small/medium wood stove?
