Trail shoes for hunting

Adidas Terrex GTX were great for me last year.

I packed a cow out on Saturday in a pair of Hokas, would not reccomend.

Salomon Speedcross are great too.

What’s the toe box like on the adidas?
I’m usually a EE width. Thanks

So I think it varies model to model. The Terrex I had last hunting season had a generous toe box and I had no issues. The pair I bought this year caused rubbing issues on my right foot pinky only. I actually returned them and thats why I hunted in Hokas last weekend.

The Adidas have great stability and were crazy comfortable. Id recomend Amazon or trying them on in person in case they are too tight.

Im going to try some of New Balance GTX trail runners as NB always fit me good.

I was actually looking at the NB Tektrel and Dynasoft Nitrel V6.
NB have always fit me well.
The height of the Adidas was appealing to me.
Probably should look into the NB’s and a low gaiter.

Put on a pile of miles wearing the on cloud Cloudrock gtx spot and stalk archery antelope in Wyoming. I do use my insoles. I was very comfortable in the high temps and VERY impressed with durability. Not foot problems in the rough terrain and the rubber Rand handled cactus needles like a champ. First time seriously hunting in a shoe for a longer duration. Even did a mile plus one trip pack out.

Very interested in trying a pair of these out. I recently bought a pair of Salomon Ultra 4 Mid GTX for a hike in Yosemite and my feet felt like there were on fire - were not breathable. Was hoping to also use those as an occasional lightweight hunting boot.

Did you get the On Cloudrock in mid or low?

I went with the low. You do get a little extra debris in them. I just wear full boot socks and kind of scrunch them down around the ankle and it mitigates most of it.

I've been through many many La Sportiva Mutants. I think I'm at 11 pairs over the years at this point. They are a great running shoe and support my high arches, when the lugs wear down they become a great scrambling shoe and when they completely go (400-500 miles) you can just get them resoled with a vibram dot or the like.

Good stuff. I'll have to head to REI and give them a trial run. Thanks!

I tried wearing my Brooks Cascadia GTX for hunting. Now I find myself grabbing them instead of boots. I'll even wear them in snow with gaiters sometimes.

I’ve used Solomon speed cross gortex for the last two seasons after I got a blister from my kenetrek mountain extremes. I had used them for 4 years hunting in Idaho and my first bow season trying to sneak around got a blister. Put on the Solomon’s with Peax gators and loved it! Super lightweight, mostly waterproof with gators, no issues with debris, cooler then the kenetrek boots, and much quieter/more nimble. Packing out although doable is not the best, I’d prefer boots for packing out. For Bow hunting at least in Idaho with my feet, trail runners are my choice, boots for rifle as it’ll be colder out, im not trying to sneak in, and a little extra waterproofing is nice. Just bought a new pair of Merrell wrapt sneakers to try out this bow season. Good luck hope the trail runners worked out!
