I've been a fan of Altra shoes for the last 2 years. I've ran in the Lone Peak 2.5 and the 3.0 and now the Superior 3.0. The Lone Peak mid would be a great shoe for what you are describing.
As others have mentioned, if you're able to build your ankle and foot strength up where you don't need that high ankle support, that would be ideal. Slowly allow the muscles to work and do the stabilization instead of relying on a boot or strap support.
