I see tons of awesome trail camera pics, I'm looking at buying my first one. Any suggestions on decent ones?

I just read a report where DFG in CA did a comparison on a bunch of them. One of the things that really stuck out was the same exact model mounted next to another one would have completely different pictures. I was blown away at how they put ten cams out and one took over 300 pics and others only a couple. Every cam was set to the same trigger setting and still the same exact model would say capture ten photos of a deer and one right next to it would take zero. I need to find the article and post it for everyone who uses game cameras. I don't use them but found the study very interesting.

Trail camera reviews and ratings are tough.

How will you use it?

I have a bunch of Bushnell Trophy cam aggressors.

I have Browning spec ops and recon force.

I also have USA trail camera recruit cams.

I will be getting some exodus lift cams as well.

I can tell you this, the Bushnell is fast. Its really fast.
The detection to trigger speed is so fast that you always seem to get just antler tips on one edge of the picture.
It also is really fast when it comes to reset time. Meaning the time it takes to be ready to take a second photo, after the first photo is taken.

As a result, the second picture is often half an animal.

Now, thats a great thing if you put your cam on a trail where animals are constantly moving through an area.

Its really crappy if you have animals feeding around, taking their time, ect.

Also the Bushnell has an incredible detection range. It will pick up game out to 110 ft.
Do you need that?

Well, if you are setting up on a wide open field, or meadow, you might.
If you are setting up on a bait station, you wont.

Contrast that to the USA recruit. 40 ft detection range, and a very slow trigger speed and slow recovery rate.

I am going to go off memory here, so if I get the numbers wrong, don't hate me.
Bushnell aggressor HD 0.1 second trigger speed, 0.9 reset speed. 110 ft range.
USA recruit 1 second trigger speed, 6 second reset speed. 40 ft range.

If you have animals coming into a water hole, and they will be close to the camera, they will stay around for a bit, and you don't want to get lots of pics of the same animal, you may want a slower camera with less detection range.

See what i am getting at?

The way I use trail cameras, the slower cameras are better.
I really like the USA cameras as the pictures are much better quality than the others.
The Browning cameras are a decent option, but they tend of over expose the images a lot.

If you are worried about theft, the Exodus cameras have the best warranty out there.
5 year warranty, when most all others are 2 year.
But, they have a theft warranty as well. In case your trail camera gets stolen.

Just remember, you are going to get some crappy photos from all brands.
You will get some good photos from all brands.
Most of the time, the photo quality will be mediocre.

Cams like the USA that focus on quality will provide a higher average of quality photos, if you can live with the slower performance.
