I personally torque everything and locktite it as well. Never had a problem doing it this way.

For want of a nail a horseshoe was lost,
for want of a horseshoe a horse went lame,
for want of a horse a rider never got through,
for want of a rider a message never arrived,
for want of a message an army was never sent,
for want of an army a battle was lost,
for want of a battle a war was lost,
for want of a war a kingdom fell,
and all for want of a nail.

Buy the torque wrench and the lock tite. If its worth doing its worth doing right.

Theres a very good tutorial on here about disassembling any new rifle, cleaning oils off of the factory screws and receiver and properly reinstalling you action, bottom metal and action screws. Also details the proper way to mount an torque a scope

I didn’t until it was a problem. The last 2 rifles I had problems with both scope mounts and action screws.

As captain Ron said, “if anything’s going to happen, it’s going to happen out there.”

Sure don’t want to find out you need to torque on the mountain...

Yes, absolutely. I torque everything, my stuff dosen’t come loose. Pulling rifles apart and mounting scopes is no big deal when you have the right tools.

Yep, search here or on 24 Hour Campfire for thread by member Formidilosus ... sorry I don't have it to hand. Might not include disassembly of whole rifle, but he does cover cleaning rail/bases and rings ...

I use mine constantly since I’m always tinkering and swapping stocks. You’ll be happy you got one.

Coming from the long range precision rifle crowd, I can say, without a doubt, this is VERY important. Also as important is to remove the oils from the screws and the mounts before applying a little bit of Loctite. Some shooters lap the rings but I have not found this to make any difference, so long as you use high quality rings and bases.

i have a 338 and using seekins precision rings mounted using lactate 18inch lbs,,, scope moved forward 1/8" after only 8 rounds
emailed seekins,, they explained their rings need no lapping and do not suggest to use loctite, they say use nothing at all.

so i removed all loctite, cleaned everything well and reinstalled using 20 inch lbs,, scope started moving forward again after 10 rounds

emailed pics to seekins,, they are sending me new rings. customer service has been top notch by the way...

I've been told not to use loctite,, also told i should use it,,also told use a bit of grease

also watched several videos of PRS shooters with a lot of experience installing scopes without anything,,DRY...

with no problems....

athlon is the scope they suggest 18-20 inch lbs of torque

anyone using a athlon scope and can i torque it more?

suggestions?
