Cool. Now wich sig to get though? The farthest I'll practice is 1000 yards. I know I want the bdx? 2800, 3k, 5k, 6k, 8k? Idk.

I know this is an old post. But thought I’d throw in my two bits…I just recently purchased a Sig Kilo4k. The VERY FIRST time I used it, I installed the battery and tried to screw on the battery cap and it stripped and would not stay on. I am always very gentle with this sort of thing to NOT have problems. The feel of the battery cap and unit in general seem pretty chintzy to me. Midway returned it no problem and I asked for my money back since I have zero confidence now in the Sig rangefinder after this one fell apart so easily. I’ve since learned this is a weak point for their range finders. Anyway, best of luck to you all. Back to the drawing board for me…

I can follow up on this:

I ended up with the Sig 5K and the battery life was atrocious. Changed the settings to make it a little better and was able to get multiple hunts on one battery, but ALWAYS had two spares in the Bino Harness because it was a bit inconsistent. Was doing some local late season hunts with my boy and it crapped out on me. However, CS was amazing and I had a new one within 2 weeks. So some high and low marks there.

I found the Sig App was intuitive and easy to use. I also shot multiple range sessions at 800–1200 yards with very little tweaking. So another +1 for the Sig BDX.

At the same time, I happened a Leupold RX-5000 and they recently did an update that put it on par with the Sig Ballistic app. In prior versions, you were confined to the Leupold TBR ranges, so it gave approximations. Those all assumed 200 or 300 yard ranges depending on the caliber and I'm dedicated to 100 yard zeroes (go ahead and call me a Fud, that's fine).

With their new update, you can use 4DOF or you can plug in your ballistics for read outs. Overall the new interface is much easier to read and you can pair a wind meter to it. Combined with the better battery life, I think the nod goes to the Leupold. But just barely.

As for CS, Leupold unabashedly limits the warranty on electric products. And to some degree I get it, but I was thoroughly impressed with how Sig handled my issue.

Not either of the ones you're asking about, but the Sig 2800 is on a big sale at Scheels right now for sub $200 for a $400 RF.

I did the same thing with a Leupold 1200 back in 2017. They changed color scheme and cut price a bunch. It still works. Not using it for ballistics or nothing like that, just ranges and distances.

Its on its 3rd battery.

I do MPBR and that means hold on hair to 350 yds with a 200-250 yd zero pretty much,

I recently bought an Sig kilo4 OIS. Have not had much opportunity to do more than range the neighbors mailboxes out to 400 yds, but the optical image stabilization (OIS) is like night/day.
I had a Leica which I got frustrated with as I could not freehand hold it on distant elk long enough to be confident I was ranging the critters and not vegetation. This kilo4 should handle that use case easily.
Sig also advertises a very generous warranty with no need to dig out the receipt etc.

One trick on any threaded battery compartment is once you put the replacement batteries in, turn the cap CCW (the direction you go when you are removing the cap) not even a full turn, this usually gets the thread on the cap aligned to the battery compartment.

I would say even better. I had a 1600 that was acting up, didn’t return the right range in direct sun. Called them up and they sent a 3k as the 1600 was discontinued. Didn’t even have to send it back in. While I am disappointed it failed, I am quite happy with how they handled the warranty.

I can attest to this also just sent in my 3k for an eye piece that wouldn't hold it's place, they sent me a brand new pair no questions asked. That's customer service!!
