Topo Maps, Best place to get them?

Don’t know if there is anything easier or better than Mytopo. Been getting mine there for years.

Do they print them for you too?

You print them yourself...
You can create what you want, there are tons of features, including burn history, multiple map sources, topographic shading and more. You can then print off a hard copy at the scale you want (the maps have magnetic declination information and so forth). There will also be a QR code in the corner of the map. You can scan that code and then download the map onto your GPS equipped device of choice, and use it in GAIA or Avenza, or whatever you use. If you have an account, that downloadable map will be available to you for as long as you want. If you're a free user, they will host the map for a week, and you can download it whenever you want in that time period and when you have it, it works for as long as you keep it on your device.

This is a pretty good write up.

It's fun to play with, and easy to use... give it a go!

Can the created maps be downloaded to a card and used in a garmin handheld?

This is nice. I've used Caltopo for scouting, works great! But I still think that for custom maps printed on tear resistant, waterproof media, Mytopo is it.
Sure, you can go out and obtain some of the same type of paper, and get yourself a professional printer that will print on large sheets, but for me it's a little more economical to fork over $9.99 to have someone else do it.

The files are geospatial PDFs, but I don't know what file formats garmins use.

Backyard- to your point, I just took my map over to to OfficeMax and had it laminated. Worked for me... but I've never tried a MyTopo, but they sound great.

Ed over at Game Planner Maps is the best map guy there is. Give him a call and tell him what you need and he'll make it for you. The maps are double sided, water/tear resistant and you get to preview/approve the map before he prints it. Best of all; you get to talk with a hunter about your hunting map.
