Top units Wyoming and Colorado

If you could pick any unit in both Wyoming and Colorado to hunt for mule deer what would they be?

I have max points in Wyoming and 24 points in Colorado. I'm an archery hunter but don't mind hunting a top rated 4th season unit with my bow. I want to get out of the point game and start hunting. I know its crazy to build this many points but it is what it is. I have had a blast hunting other stuff along the way!

Any input would be great!

unit 2 in colorado. I dont think that is any secret. sure there are people who may know of a great spot in other units but year in and year out unit 2 is the one that people dream of.

With all those points you could draw pretty much any unit if you just want a buck. By top rated, if you mean best big buck unit, I'd look hard at 44 4th season in Colorado. Great genetics and very hunters. In Wyoming, maybe area 87. Region G had a bad winter last year but you never know. I would keep an eye on it this year so far as what type of bucks will come out of it.

I have thought about 44 for the last 5-6 years but from what I hear it is such a weather critical unit that with a bow I have always been scared off.

Yeah, it's easier to hunt when there's snow but the majority of the bucks will have moved near the does by 4th season no matter what, to rut. It is true that some will remain high until the deep snows come. The best odds for snow would be the 4th season. Just a gamble...

Wow! That’s a lot of points. Hopefully you’ve been hunting all these years. You seem like a guy that does his homework. Make sure to put max effort into whatever tag you draw. I see people draw amazing tags and fall short of their goals because they think all they have to do is show up. Good luck! Can’t wait to see how it shakes out

The eternal answer for Wyoming seems to be 128-1. I've never had it or known anyone who had it though.

The premium tags are mostly late season, rifle tags. If you drew one of those, did I understand correctly that you would still hunt it with your bow?

Yes sir, I would. I would assume most of the top tier tags would not exactly be overcrowded so it would just be a matter of being in a area I could archery hunt
