Tipton Ultra Gun Vise

Anyone have anything particularly negative to say about this vise that would be a showstopper? I mainly hunt archery but with the addition of a new rifle, want a nice(er) vice to mount my NF scope as well as regular cleaning and maintenance. From the reviews I've read, it seems more durable/well made than the "best gun vise" also by tipton.

If you are putting a bipod on the rifle, use that as your support for maintenance and scope mounting. It's a nice vise, but I don't see the value in it if you aren't going to be working on lots of arms. The vise made my Hoppes sells is actually pretty good.

Thanks! Will check it out. Am doing both a bipod and scope mount. I have a $100 gift card to cabelas that I was going to use.

I have the MTM cleaning stand. More often than I probably should I find myself putting the gun or barreled action with scope in the stand upside down to remove bottom metal, triggers, ect.... With a scope on its not ideal.

The Tipton Ultra version looks like it would be much better suited for that kind of stuff. Something to consider if you work on guns at all.

I have the ultra and I’m not really a fan. I wish I would have purchased one of the cheaper models as those aren’t adjustable, at least to my knowledge. The adjustable vise supports in the ultra slip as they are just threaded plastic. When doing something that requires the gun to be 100% steady, like mounting a scope, I have to go out to the garage and use my heavy duty bench mounted vise.

So if I understand you correctly you're saying that you can't really get it locked down super tight?

I had their “best gun vise” and it was ok but not super solid. I paid $80 for it so it met my needs, I caught A deal an ultra for just over $100. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade IMO. Far more stable And My experience is a bit different than @Loper I am not a rifle expert but have mounted a few scopes with mine and it works. I agree you can’t clamp things down hard but mine has been fine to level the gun and then tighten the ring screws enough to hold the scope. After that, I can torque them as needed and then chekc level again.

I have one, it's just ok. It does get the job done though. Never really researched other options. Since it's plastic, it's got a little more flex than I would like.

I have a "Best Gun Vise" it's mainly used for cleaning chores and mounting optics and it works fine for that. I don't remember what I paid but see no reason to upgrade. Starting off with a better model can't hurt in my opinion. The whole ignorance is bliss works for me, sometimes.

I appreciate the helpful insight. I was looking at buying the Tipton ultra gun vise, but thinking twice now. Need something to mount scopes, but don’t have the space for a bench gun vise. Any recommendations?
