Tips for First-Time Spring Bear Hunt?

I’m planning my first spring bear hunt this year and could use some advice from those of you with experience. I’ve been reading a lot and scouting on maps, but I’d like to hear from people who’ve actually put in the miles. A few things I’m wondering about: What type of terrain do you usually focus on early vs. late spring? Any signs or food sources that are a dead giveaway for bear activity this time of year? Do you typically glass from a distance or still-hunt your way through country? How much does time of day really matter when it comes to bear movement? I’ll be hunting mostly in mountainous and timbered areas, and the biggest goal is to learn as much as possible while hopefully tagging my first bear. Would appreciate any tips, stories, or lessons learned especially mistakes to avoid as a beginner. Thanks in advance!
