This isn’t hunting related but it is an outdoors write up. I’ve posted quite a bit of my woodworking in the past and I think this post will be my favorite. I started this project 3 summers ago and built it solo in the mountains without any cell service so injury was always in the back of my mind. Building on a slope wasn’t the safest to do alone but I got it done. The first summer i laid out where I wanted to build our tiny cabin on our property. This property is off the grid so there is an outhouse and will be an outdoor shower that I’m building next summer. I decided to build the foundation on top of concrete Burke tube forms a few feet deep.
Framed up the sub floor and started framing once the concrete was cured.

After perimeter framing was done I added the loft floor which was held up in one corner by a deadfall tree that I cut and installed

Next was sheathing for shear strength and trusses. Those were a B to install solo.

Cool project. I'm curious, why plywood over OSB? (Which seems to be the fav around me.

Next was to sheet the roof and waterproof it

After that came the hard part, putting on the metal roof by myself. What a chore! This is when I got a little worried about falling

Then sheathing

Once the structure was finished I had to waterproof the outside before siding

Next was installing the butcher block countertop with chessboard inlay and hardwood flooring that I made out of 3/8”!sheathing plywood.

Once all the hardwood flooring was installed I put the barnwood on the front of the island and installed the beam chandelier that I built that is on a dimmer switch located over the counter

Now it’s time for a finish on the floor. I used a satin polyurethane

I hope you enjoyed my tiny cabin build along.
The family is heading back up in a couple of weeks to furnish it! I’ll post more pics when furnished

Really turned out nice! What are you using for heat?

It’s a summer getaway so we really don’t need it. I’ve got an antique wood burning stove that will be in there but it’ll be more for decor. It will work if we really need it though.

Really nice job I built a 12× 12 structure on my property off grid to add an extra bath and sleeping area for guests. I really appreciate your work here.

Wow. Your cabin is a LOT nicer than most of the Alaska small cabins. Very nice. What are the dimensions?

The state sells what they call "recreational" property to residents up here for relatively cheap, so there are hundreds if not thousands of similar small to medium sized cabins scatted all over Alaska. Very few of them end up as nice as yours (although a few do). You have some pretty good skills with the interior finish work.

I have countless good memories staying in small dry cabins. This is my daughter in front of one my grandfather built. Four generations have used this one now.

And this is a truly "tiny" one (10x12) that my brothers and I helped my dad build back in highschool.

I have been working on something similar at a remote site in interior AK with "help" from my kids (8 & 6) . It's in the mountains and about 14 miles off the road, so logistics of getting stuff in is 90% of the challenge. Was just there this weekend hauling more lumber and getting another round of logs up.

Most the supplies come in via winter trail.

And then we build in the summer season.

Compared to yours, mine is going to lean towards the rustic side for sure!
