Tikka vs CZ - 22LR

I'm surprised to read so many issues with the Tikka. Ours is well over 3k with no cleaning and one failure to feed on an dinged up lead bullet
I buy the cheapest cci, federal, remington, aguila, and it's too easy at 50 yds to shoot supported.

I’ve tried every ammo under the sun including eley, sk, cci and other cheap stuff. It shoots cci standard velocity ridiculously well but I swear it successfully ejects 75% of my spent rounds and I have one of the newer models with supposedly a better ejector. I’ve checked around rimfire central and there are ALOT of people with the same issue and 0 consensus on a fix. Just alot of theories… I wanna like the gun but god damn it’s frustrating

When did you buy yours? Everyone else for that matter?

If I remember right, mine was a winter 2020/21 arrival at Murdoch's and I bought it the day it arrived at the store.

I’ve put thousands and thousands of rounds of CCI SV through my 457 and it runs flawlessly with very infrequent cleaning. The only time I had a real problem, I discovered it was because I had installed the extractors backwards after disassembling the bolt.

I purchased mine April 2022. I tried every possible remedy that I read about online and never could get it to function reliably. Mine also had the “improved” blade ejector that supposedly fixed the issues with the earlier spring ejector rifles

It’s interesting to hear Form talk about 10k rounds suppressed with no cleaning and having no issues. I wish I could find someone selling a T1x that would replicate that reliability. I truly loved everything else about it

Regarding the original question - I recommend going to a store and handling all of them to compare to the anecdotal data you get from us i.e. what we like.

I have had the ruger american predator rimfire in .22 mag - sold.
Bergara B14r in .22LR for comps - sold.
CZ 452 varmint in .17 hmr - sold - regretably
Marlin 17 hmr varmint heavy barrel - sold (can't remember model #)

No Savage of any kind - ever. Just can't.

Still have:

CZ 457 Pro Varmint .22 that now sits in the CZ 457 chassis. My daughter and I used this rifle together shooting 22 comps. Runs like a top always - not one FTfeed, FTE, or FTfire - ever out of thousands of rounds.

Tikka T1X in .17hmr - extremely accurate, and I have zero problems with feeding and extraction that are reported. I guess I got lucky.

RimX build in 22 for comps - runs like a top also with stupid accuracy.

I would recommend getting the CZ for you and your son. Just makes sense to me.

CZ probably has more aftermarket parts available, Tikka has a good following and is probably the best buy if you can get past the plastic stock. I see that CZ is offering more and more plastic stocks each year. Hang onto you wood.

I have owned centerfire models and everyone has shot like a laser. I haven't owned a rimfire model yet though.

It has wore two suppressors, but one mostly. And no, it wasn’t cleaned.
Have you got the old T1x with the wire ejector? Or the new one with the fixed plastic one? I’ve had issues with my wire ejector older model as of late. Around 10k rounds as well shooting Eley

Mine is a wire.

Mine isn’t quite as bad, but it’s bad enough that I can’t use it for NRL/PRS any more. Couple stages per match It would fail to extract. It’s a shame because it shoots so well. As far as I can tell no way to really fix it.

I see way less issues in matches with CZ. I went with vudoo which had been nearly perfect but $$$

I ran a rugged oculus 22 can on my 16" T1X, but the back pressure was enough to cause malfunctions after as few as 50 rounds.

I now run a 9mm pistol can on it and it doesn't malfunction ever and balances just like the centerfires.

Edit to add- not only does the back pressure make everything dirty, it expands the thin walled 22lr casing making it way tighter in the chamber. It's noticably more difficult to extract the case with a little screw driver or pocket knife under the rim. Big bore 9mm can won't do this.

I’m trying to get some real opinions on these two rifles. Hopefully all of the fan boys don’t chime in, and I can get some objective opinions.
I just want to know which you think is better. Tikka is a great rifle but I’ve never shot one in 22 rimfire. Every CZ 22 I’ve ever shot (only 2) have been incredible.
I’m looking to get one for my boy (and a matching one for myself.
Thoughts?
I got both my girls CZ’s. One got 22lr and the other .17. The 22 is really good, but the .17 is lights out. I wish I would have got the varmint barrel; they are better. I also have a kimber 22lr that beats them both. However, if they get to choose they like to shoot the 10/22 with a Volquartsen barrel or the Kidd.

Fails to eject, or fails to extract? Mine won't extract: the round gets stuck in the chamber, then has to be pried out, pushed out with a rod, or sometimes I can get it to extract by slamming the bolt forward on it and running it again (doesn't work very often though). Is that your issue, or is yours extracting successfully from the chamber but not ejecting fully from the action? Seems like there's a couple distinct issues with T1x's, but not much consistency to it.

Agreed that it's incredibly frustrating.

Eject for me. I’ve never had any hang in the chamber, but they will just not throw out of the receiver and just land on top of the new round or in front of it so I gotta tip the gun to drop it before running a new round in.
