Tikka vs CZ - 22LR

No offense, but I would never counsel someone to purchase a Ruger when you can get CZ sporters for under $500. I don’t even own one of the heavy barreled variants, but I have yet to meet a CZ rimfire that doesn’t require me to do my best to try to match its potential. They shoot great, the bolt is smooth, they handle well. I’ve used a ton of different squirrel rifles, but the 452 and 457 outdo them all.

No offense taken, and I am not a Ruger fan boy by any stretch, but they got the American rimfires 'right' (I do disable the trigger blade thingy). It's ever bit as solid as the CZ and feeds better from the vastly superior magazine. The CZ mag is kind of a S-show and rather expensive IF you can find them in stock. My 5 rounders all have a habit of occasionally jamming on the last round. Both are good guns.

Another dandy, if you can find one, is the old Remington 581 for a light squirrel rifle.

I have a 17HMR Ruger American and 2 CZ 457's both 22LR. I like the CZ's slightly better but, the Ruger is actually a better buy, just not in that pretty wood like the CZ.

I went with a T1X so that I could create an ergonomic clone of my T3X hunting rifles for practicing similarity purposes. This strategy has worked out great for me, all the positional practice, trigger pull, eye relief, cheek weld, safety, mags, etc is identical and makes switching between guns perfectly easy. I have found it to be totally reliable in ~5k rds I've put on it in the last 2 years. I think maybe 3 failures to eject which were due to me short cycling the bolt. I almost never clean it, just dry wipe the bolt and action when it gets too dirty and light coat of lube on the bolt. Mags have been perfect too. As far as accuracy, I think it's more than adequate for my needs. Here are 15 10rd groups at 50yds, doing some lot and suppressor accuracy testing. 0 regrets.

I have a special run of the American with 18 inch threaded medium barrel. It shoots close to as well as my CZ varmint, and weighs 3 lbs less with a better magazine.

If you are hunting and not just target shooting, I'd probably get the Ruger.
My Ruger American is some sort of special edition too, it has a heavier contour 16” threaded barrel and came with a pic rail installed. It’s also ceracoated.

I actually got it thinking it would be for my wife but I’ve changed my mind on that after using it for awhile. It really is a good gun.

Fwiw, I’ve shot thousands of suppressed rounds out of the CZ 457 and have only ever used a paper towel to quickly wipe out the chamber with my finger. No other cleaning whatsoever. It has never malfunctioned, failed to feed or done anything besides operating as it should.

The rounds were sticking down in the magazines and not feeding up. I figured it was due to shooting suppressed.
That’s just a design flaw of the magazine. The bolt being closed during shooting should keep any meaningful buildup from occurring inside the magazine.

Same with my rugers and my tacsol. My t1x would get sticky and stop feeding smoothly really fast. CZ is a much better option than a tikka t1x. I’ll be grabbing a CZ soon.

Cz. I own a t1x in 22 or and it’s accurate as hell BUT it doesn’t eject for shit and this is a common problem. I want to love it since it matches my beloved T3s so closely but I can’t.

I have a cz457 in 17 and it’s been a great rifle. No issues at all.

For those with the CZ 457’s. Would you go with the Varmint MTR or one of the other models?

The American SR or the Royal. Be aware that the Royal has 1/2x20 threads, so you will need an adapter to 1/2x28.
