Tikka vs CZ - 22LR

That's still supersonic so would have the "crack" to it, wouldn't it?

My .22 shorts are only 710fps but are still too loud without a suppressor. My subsonic CCI's should be perfect in a suppressed bolt rifle.

I have found that subsonic (~1050 FPS) .22 LR sounds about like a pellet gun from my CZ 457 Royal with a Banish 22 suppressor. The accuracy is quite good too. If I considered it safe, I would have no problem using it on vermin in my suburban backyard. But the neighborhood geometry just isn’t right for it.

I have a CZ 457 MTR and I really like it. super reliable and pretty accurate. I shoot subsonic Eley Match in PRS matches and hearing protection is not required. I have also shot the CCI standard velocity and it is also quite and pretty accurate as well.

I have found it to be totally reliable in ~5k rds I've put on it in the last 2 years.
What ammo are you mostly using? I got my T1x for the same reason, matching my centerfire. First 500 rounds of Norma Tac 22 had no major issues, the first round out of the 10 round mag would occasionally catch, not feed, and need to be re-set. Wasn't an issue if I loaded 8 rounds instead of 10.

Just picked up some "winchester super suppressed" and maybe 50% won't extract. Happens whether or not they're fired.

That’s the primary reason I moved on from my t1x. The issue only got worse as the gun got dirtier which happens fast with a silencer. I’d be out Permian hunting dropping all sorts of rounds in the snow trying to get the gun to feed one.

On the rounds that wouldn’t feed I could see the indentation from where they hung up on the feed ramp or edge of the chamber.

That dosent happen with my beater Ruger American, my tacsol or my older rugers.

This is really disappointing to hear, but also the response I was expecting. I'll see if cleaning the chamber makes much difference.

At one point I even considered taking a rat tail file and rounding off the edge of the chamber. I never did it but I thought about it. I think it could have been the angle of the bullet in the magazine and it’s oriented when pushed into the chamber.

Cleaning helped but it got dirty fast and would start doing it again, I figured that was from having a right chamber which is probably part of the reason the gun was so accurate.

It was almost comical, every time we’d go shooting ptarmigans, my buddy with his basic 10/22 would get twice as many birds as me because I was always fumbling with the t1x.

Definitely still supersonic, yes -- but significantly more efficient (and ~40% less expensive to shoot).
I looked at the HM2's and they're more expensive now than what I paid for the stockpile of HMR's that I already have. 2100fps versus 2550fps........I'm sure they both work equally well. I just can't use them at home. I have a Benjamin .22 air rifle that works great when it works. But I've had it fixed three times now and it needs it again. Tired of doing that.

SK Pistol Match

The issues with the T1x’s are interesting to me. I certainly haven’t seen a lot of them, but I have seen 8-10 used heavily and other than 2 bad mags out of 50+, there have been no issues. Not only that, the o ly rifles that have gotten smaller average 30 rounds groups at 40 yards have been Vudoo’s, and even then only by less than a tenth of an inch.
The Vudoos have averaged between .25” and .35” at 40 yards for 30 round groups with SK Stabdard Plus and Lapua. The T1x’s have averaged .3” to .4” for the same. CZ’s have averaged closer to 1” groups (at best generally) for 30 rounds at 40 yards.

None of the T1x’s have ever been cleaned, and they work. However, it has almost all been high quality match, some good HP, and CCI Subsonic ammo- no bulk trash .22. Mine has well over 10,000 rounds on it.

So would you say that the Tikka is a better option than the CZ as an overall opinion?

Depends on the use. They have been quite a bit more precise than CZ’s, and I have not seen any reliability issues that have been relayed here. If I did, I’d find a way to correct it, or get a different rifle.

Only have shot cci segmented hp 40gr for high volume ground squirrel shooting but haven’t had the rifle that long yet. Been good so far. IMG_1370.jpeg mags design does suck though.

Will eventually get a CZ as well.

Yeah,CZs are decent but not great.
I bought a lefty 452 for my wife and kids about 20 years ago and the accuracy was amazing so I bought a righty for myself which is very average.
According to internet folklore the lefty’s come out of the custom shop and the stock timber and the accuracy is a strong argument for that.

Most target shooters are pretty limp wristed.
I borrowed one last week with the intent of buying one if it worked out OK and now have one on order.

10k rds with a supressor? If so, same no cleaning regime as center fire supressors?

I'm surprised to read so many issues with the Tikka. Ours is well over 3k with no cleaning and one failure to feed on an dinged up lead bullet
I buy the cheapest cci, federal, remington, aguila, and it's too easy at 50 yds to shoot supported.

I’ve had the he t1x 22lr for a while. Still only a fraction of rounds through it compared to what Form mention. Probably just a little over 1,000 suppressed and cleaned once recently. Rifle and suppressor. I wasn’t having any issues but was curious about cleaning the rimfire cans(DA Masks) so I did a clr baffle soak. Worked great fwiw. All I’ve shot has been norma tac-22 and cci standard velocity. So not really top shelf ammo but not the cheapest stuff either. I’ve not had one issue yet. I have only had the t1x 17 for a month or maybe less. Only a couple hundred rounds through it but so far so good. I wonder if some of the problems are magazine related?
