Tikka vs CZ - 22LR

The American SR or the Royal. Be aware that the Royal has 1/2x20 threads, so you will need an adapter to 1/2x28.
Where are these under $500 CZ's?

And is there a 457 that has a walnut stock, 16ish inch regular barrel, 1/2x28 threads, and not $800+? I searched around yesterday online and it seems like everything with the 16" barrel was a heavy barrel.

@B_Reynolds_AK which model is that first one in your pics?

I have a CZ 457 Manners Varmint Precision which is great because it’s nearly identical to my main rifle stock/weight. You can swap barrels and calibers with just 4 screws. The stock action and trigger is really good out of the box.

I will say with the CZ 457 or really any 455/452 there is a bit of accuracy roulette inherent with these rifles. They are also really finicky with regard to action screw and barrel screw torque when you are trying to get very tight groups. The really serious CZ 457 shooters will loctite their barrel into the action with no torque on barrel screws.

With my limited experience with the T1x I will say they are as accurate if not a hair more accurate than a CZ 457 in bone stock form but they don’t have the heavy aftermarket support or use in NRL22 type events.

I feel compelled to throw something in:

Factory irons shouldn't be a deal killer for anyone on CZ's.

The front and rear come out easy with the screws.

The hood on the front sight taps out with a mallet, its just a slot with 2 ears that hold it in.

I left my hood on because I can't see it with the Skinner rear aperture I have on mine which I would consider a mandatory upgrade if you're not going to install a scope.

They have sales about once a year on various models. My American SR was $350 new. They are a bit more now, even on the super sale. I got a walnut stock and a Scout stock off the RFC classifieds for $150 (combined). I got the nicest bottom metal I could find for it so that was another $150. It is also relatively easy to find a replacement 16” barrel if you need that. Lots of aftermarket support for CZ.

The American has a 20” threaded barrel, but like you I prefer a 16” barrel. The Royal just requires a thread adapter, but it is a more expensive model than the American.

I like CZ, but they are far from perfect. They make business decisions that outright perplex me. I won’t re-write it here, but I have a long rant thread over at RFC about my problems with the CZ 457 lineup and its gaps and shortcomings.

If I was starting my CZ rimfire purchases over again, I would be looking at threaded secondhand 452’s.

Here is my Royal and my daughter’s Scout. My American is at the farm so I cannot take a picture of it now.

The other sound option is to get a Scout on sale, throw away the trash iron sights, and put it in an American stock. I can’t even begin to express how bad the Scout’s iron sights are. Just flaming garbage. On sale, that can get you the 16” 1/2x28 barrel for $500-$600 depending on how patient you are.

Keep the blade front (no improvement needed) and order a Skinner rear. I can hit 8" circle at 100 offhand no problem and I'm about 75% at 200 yards.

The blade front is trash. It moves laterally when you adjust for elevation.

I do have the Skinner rear sight, but it has the red dot in it now for my daughter.

I'll check that out, I didn't mess with the blade front I only adjusted the rear once and went to town.

Yes, when I first got the Scout, I made the mistake of trying to adjust windage, then elevation. You have to set front sight elevation, then adjust windage with the rear sight.

That’s the worst step back from the 452 models. The 452 trainers have such wonderful sights.

Pretty sure that's a 457 Pro Varmint. They came with a heavy, threaded, 16.5" barrel and a Boyd's stock.

Here's my Pro Varmint in the factory Boyd's stock and in a KRG Bravo.

Nice. I just want a nice accurate bolt action threaded rifle to keep shooting pesky varmints. I've been using my lever action Henry with .22 shorts and a scope for about 7 years now I think, and it's only missed twice. But since I have some suppressors now, I really want a decent bolt gun. My suppressed 10/22 just doesn't cut it, and my suppressed .17 HMR bolt gun is still too loud for neighborhood use.

I’m trying to get some real opinions on these two rifles. Hopefully all of the fan boys don’t chime in, and I can get some objective opinions.
I just want to know which you think is better. Tikka is a great rifle but I’ve never shot one in 22 rimfire. Every CZ 22 I’ve ever shot (only 2) have been incredible.
I’m looking to get one for my boy (and a matching one for myself.
Thoughts?
Own both. CZ if you are a wood guy. Tikka in all other cases due to action and barrel.

Another CZ fan here, I have an old beat up 452 that was the first rifle I bought.
Cut down and suppressed, synthetic stock, it's been an absolute work horse with tens of thousands of rounds down the tube and its still stupidly accurate.
Nothings ever broken on it.

For my nice CZ I have a 455 American with .22lr, .22WMR & .17HMR barrels, all threaded.
Every so often I get bored of shooting whatever barrel is fitted and will put on one of the other barrels.
Currently wearing the .17HMR.
It's not quite as accurate as my old 452, but it runs slicker than dog shit.

Have you by chance tried shooting .17 HM2 in that (through the can)?
That's still supersonic so would have the "crack" to it, wouldn't it?

My .22 shorts are only 710fps but are still too loud without a suppressor. My subsonic CCI's should be perfect in a suppressed bolt rifle.
