Tikka upgrades... help please!

It’s a light rifle with a lot of recoil. Since it’s a hunting rifle there’s a good chance that the shooter could be wearing gloves, and breathing heavy, amped up, etc. when he takes a shot at an animal. Sometimes a shot needs to happen quickly. So given all those variables, with a sub 2lb trigger it would be very easy to break the trigger prematurely or accidentally. I understand that in a perfect world those things can be mitigated, but in my experience the perfect scenario just doesn’t present itself very often. Hope that helps explain my comments.

Hence the reason to never have your finger on any trigger till you’re ready to pull it.

what threading did you do for your brake? is there a shoulder for it to set against, or was it rockset in or what? thanks!

It was the 1/2-28 thread, not enough meat on the Tikka sporter barrels for 9/16 or 5/8. Sent the rifle off to get it threaded, and sent the brake along, which isn,t really necessary. Basically a two piece brake, once the barrel is threaded, screw the adapter on, snug it down with a 5/8, actual brake is a press fit on a tapered shaft. Pop it on, time the ports, little pop with the heel of your hand, done.

And recoil wise, world of difference. First trip to the range with the rifle, prior to the brake, ran through 18 rounds, wasn,t terrible, kinda liked it, but you definitely felt it. Now, i,d have to say it,s like a 257 Roberts in a heavy rifle. I,ve got a Kimber Montana in 257 Roberts, with 100 grain Sierras and around 44 grains of 4451, sharper recoil from the Montana, FWIW..

Agreed on the rust, I had mine cerakoted in tactical gray and it looks great.

I also had a rust problem and did the full cerakote job. The bolt still gets rust on it. I make sure and clean it with a scotchbright and spray when i put it away.

Depends on ya budget really.

Break will make a big difference to shootablity.

Tikka Triggers are awesome, and for a 'hunting' rifle they are fine, id just wind her down to as low as it goes and see how you like it. Not much to be gained there.

Talley rings, simple and light. Dont really need a rail.

Bolt fluting looks cool, but doesn't really do anything.

My Tikka .300wsm has fluted barrel and bolt, but its hardly worth it.
I have talley rins with a z5, and I do have a carbon fiber stock which I do not overly like.

The standard tikka as it is it pretty hard to improve on, and the gains are only minimal really.

Id save ya coins and get a good scope, far easier to save a bit of weight on your other gear(ie sleep system etc)
