Tikka threading

I'm also interested in chopping down and threading a factory Tikka. Does anyone know if the Tikka "Lite" rifles actually have a thinner barrel contour than the "Hunter," "Forest" and "Laminated Stainless" versions, or are they the same?

They are the same.

+1 for ADCO’s work. They cut down my t3 lite 338 win mag to 20”, threaded and installed a collar. It’s now very accurate with a suppressor.

The Roughtech Lite versions come with threaded barrels.

A 270 T3x has an advertised weight of 6.2 pounds vs the Roughtech Lite's 6.8 pounds. The 270 Roughtech with the 20" barrel is 6.6pounds.

The ADCO collars on the lite barrels, do they shoulder up on the muzzle face or how do they stay put?

Why do weird stuff? Just find a gunsmith that will cut to the length you want and add a permanent adapter/collar to direct thread 5/8x24.

1/2" threads dont leave much steel with certain bore sizes. I've been led to believe more meat on the muzzle = better. If you're going to put an adapter on there anyway and there is a "just as good" solution that leaves more meat on the muzzle, i'm interested.

I read something similar to this over a decade ago and it stuck with me, i didn't think it was with 5/8" threads though! So what if I can't shoot any possible differences, its just one more variable somewhat in our control.

This is a stainless factory T3x barrel cut to 18", threaded 1/2-28, with a 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapter installed w/ Loctite.

I know this particular post is a couple of years old, but @Antares would you share what caliber this Tikka T3x rifle was? It appears this is the way for me for my .270.

And did Kampfeld put the adapter on for you as well, or just cut/thread and you did the rest?

I've had Karl do this on 3 Tikkas to date; 6.5CM, 6CM, and .223. He does everything, cut, thread, add adapter, thread protector, etc.

Thank you. I've been in touch with Karl and will be sending my Tikka in. Thank you for posting your experience and results. Curious, what barrel length did you go with for your 6.5CM?

Hey there, my Tikka 6.5CM and 223 just came back from Karl and my Lite needed to lose about 2 1/4" to get enough to do the shoulder for 5/8-24. My 223 did not get cut as it didn't need to be shortened. (He said the 223 had a slightly larger OD.) The final length of the 6.5 is a hair over 21".

For the record, I'll be shooting with supressor for a class, but won't be after as they aren't legal in my home state. Both barrels are nearly the same length now.

Closeup photos of the 6.5 please

My research found this as well. I’ve got rifles factory threaded for muzzle devices. I’ve got a new Tikka coming I’m going to rock old school, no muzzle attachments.

I sent my Tikka .243 to TBAC for their face mount installation, to accommodate my TBAC suppressor. I ain’t buying a rifle to chop off and degrade what characteristics and specifications it was optimally designed for. I’m not an illegal road hunter so I don’t want it short enough to stand between my legs, while seated in the truck, going down the road, and be ready to shoot it out the window. Nor am I too lazy to use the carry position instead of the shouldered position and have to stoop, going under low branches.
