Shooting should be fun. One of the big reasons shooting 22LR is so fun is that you arent getting beat up with recoil or blast/noise, even shooting all day. The more fun it is, the more you will shoot, the better you get, the more familiar you become with your system.

In fact, getting yourself a bolt 22LR in addition to you centerfire is also a great idea. You can get TONS of range time, develop fundamentals, without alot of cost. It is very easy to dismiss a 22 as being for kids and just messing around, but it is ABSOLUTELY a very effective training tool.

If you decide to save a grand & steer away from the Seekins, there's a HUGE argument to be made for owning 2 Tikkas. Either a .243 or 6.5CM plus either a .223 or T1x in .22LR

I am somewhat biased on this, since my go-to rifle for 90% of my hunting is a Tikka .223 & the only reason I own anything bigger at all is because I'm a gun junkie & Wyoming has a .24 caliber restriction for elk and for that I still stick to 'underpowered' chamberings. Either .358 Win, 6.5x55 or my .300 Ham'r (don't get excited by the .300...... it's basically a modern. 30-30 equivalent)

My T3X superlite 6.5 creed is a silly accurate gun for what I’ve got in it. T3X, Talley mounts, zeiss conquest v4, and 100 rounds of ammo is about the price of a seekins PH3.

My T3X is not picky on ammo either. With sig platinum 140 grain accubonds, it’s a 1/2” gun. It shoots cheap S&B fmj’s just as well as a lot of custom 30 cal magnums I see reviewed on YouTube.

I’m going to shoot a moose in AK with it next fall if the Good Lord sees fit.

I had a Superlite 30-06 that would rattle my skull everytime I shot it. I would not recommend that for a first rifle. Tikka Superlite 6.5 Creedmoor.

To the OP: I would never recommend a 300 WM for a newbie. The Tikka -06 is also going to have some recoil which you can mitigate by shooting lighter bullets, installing a Limbsaver pad and heavy scope. I have killed 40ish bull elk and assisted on about 40 more, and based on how I have seen them cover ground after being shot I do not recommend a 243 for elk either. As others have suggested a 7-08, 6.5 cm, 6.5 PRC and although it gets no love anymore the 270 Win are good choices with the right bullet, reasonable range and good shot placement.

Ive gotten those S&Bs for $17/box and while they arent great, they are surprisingly good for that price.
