Tikka T3x "Ranahan" Review

Yes, a ton of it. The Frontier loads shoot very well in my 16.1” Tikka, consistently giving excellent accuracy and 100 FPS more velocity than the box.

I took my Ranahan out for a brief range session.
Any help getting the front site off would be appreciated.
Groups with AAC 2550fps 77gr were excellent.

Drift out the front sight blade and you’ll find a second screw underneath it. Remove that and the front sight comes off.

My T3X Ranahan in .350 legend just showed up from Euro Optic. Really pleased with the fit and finish of the gun. I ordered the Tikka vertical grip as well for better hand position.

Glass wise I've got a VX-Freedom 3-9x40 CDS that I'm mounting with Medium Height Leupold Back Country Rings straight to the receiver. Almost went with Sportsmatch though.

Really tempted to hunt the factory sights one season, they're superb.

If you want an easy step up from the factory irons, the receiver can be tapped for a Win 94 or Marlin 1894 receiver sight that works well with the front sight post. I did mine on a harbor freight drill press in the garage.

What's the best way to drift the front sight off to get to the screw underneath?
I got the shroud off so that is a start.

Hammer and Punches? C-Clamp? Vice?

There’s a specific tool for this application. I would not use a punch and hammer unless you can fully support the lower portion of the sight. It does not take much to mess up the threads on the barrel doing something like that.

It drifts right out with a small hammer and piece of wood. No need vice. Just support thr barrel with a rest when you hit it. Don’t overthink it

Yeah, small brass punch (or corner of a piece of wood) and a small hammer is all you need. Neither of mine were tight in the dovetail at all, and if you're anywhere near the barrel threads you're doing it wrong. These don't need a sight pusher tool.

I’m glad to hear that about the Ranahan. I had one and removed the sights, but had the tool, so I used it. I had a bad experience trying to remove a front sight on another rifle without the tool so I’m likely just overly cautious.
