Good morning,

I'm constantly looking throughout forums, etc for Tikka actions and components on the daily.

Is J&A Outdoors and Unknown Munitions the only places that have and sell Tikka actions?

I go back and forth on purchasing just an action, a barreled action or an entire setup. But to my question above, are those two companies the only companies around who are selling them?

Thanks for your time!

Unknown and J&A action prices are higher than you can buy an entire donor rifle usually so that's a pretty hard sell for the convenience of not having to pull the barrel. The few smiths ive sent tikka donor barreled actions to put a new barrel on haven't charged me to remove the factory tube.

I've got enough floating parts that I might actually be interested in just a receiver for the the right price..

Buy a complete "cheap" Tikka rifle. I am lucky and have a buddy with a lathe and make a relief cut on the OEM barrel and I have a Tikka action ready for barreling.

Buy a full rifle and have it sent to me, and I will pull the barrel free for you to install a barrel I sell.

I have some actions, but there is a premium and we aren’t making big money off actions. They are a convenience and way to sell our barrels. I try to offer actions with a bonus like nitride or ARC bolts, which does add more value.

Other smiths local can do it if you buy one. But, factor in all the small costs and hassle, and except for the DIY guys, I don’t think there is much “savings” after shipping and FFL fees, etc. before I got my FFL I did the diy route so I get it.

Buying just an action costs more for the convenience. As a gun assembler company, the prices charged for action alone are fair, given the comparative investment in money for all the “inventory” of stocks and barrels and such.

Tikka are not impossible and I have never had to make a relief cut on dozens of barrels including half dozen or more T3.

If the barrel has any value, it can pay for a vice, and a second barrel can certainly break even.

But, if relief cut works and makes sense, go for it.

For you, I might have something at the right price. Lemme know what you need. I have personal Tikka I need to trim inventory…

So, you are ruining the OEM barrel with your method?
Yes. Tired of fighting with OEM barrels especially ones with limited value. Bought a Tikka T3X 300 WM for action and bolt then shooting buddy cut the relief cut and voila barrel comes right off. Barrel worth maybe $75?

The takeoff barrels in desirable chamberings go for more than $75.

Buying a “better” version instead of the cheapest T3x can be worthwhile. I don’t buy the regular synthetic stocks, I buy the wood or compact ones as they sell for more money and they actually sell. UM sells the black stocks for $50 so all the ones posted for $100 or more are a tough sell. Also, caliber and twist rate matters. If you’re just looking for an action, find the deals on rifles that have desirable parts.

Or buy a $550 rifle off euro, get your action, and toss the barrel and stock in the trash where they belong. It’s not worth the hassle at all and I don’t think you’re saving anything over a discounted rifle on Euro.

Build a .223 assuming the intent is to use an aftermarket barrel. At EO right now, buy a 350 Legend synthetic for $539 or 350 Legend Hunter for $579. The Hunter stock will get back $150 to $200. Sold one for $200, some are asking $300+. Better than the Beretta rebate. The barrel isn’t gonna fetch much but even $40 or so could put the buyer pretty close to cutting the cost of the complete action in half.

Just my math. To each his own.
