Tikka T3 build

I’m working on a project for my father in law who a few years ago got hurt in an accident. He had originally bought a T3 chambered in 300wsm but now even with a muzzle brake is uncomfortable to shoot. He has done some shooting with my modified 6.5CM and loves it, so for Christmas I’m going to rechamber his for him. The hurdle I’m up against is the bolt, is there anyone out there doing a build in the other direction? I found out I need a standard bolt and I have the magnum version in hand.

Post it in the gun classifieds here as a want to trade (WTT) and I’m sure someone will respond fairly quickly willing to swap a standard head bolt for your magnum.

The tikka bolts run around $300 themselves so a trade is a way cheaper option.

Also, unless you have a bunch of 6.5 creed reloading components or really want to shoot the same cartridge, I’d go 6 creed on the rebarrel personally.

Patriot Valley Arms (PVA) and Preferred Barrel Blanks (PBB) will probably start running Black Friday sales within the next week, so it’s a great time to order a prefit.

There was a post in the Tikka ARC thread that Kampfield will put a bushing in a standard bolt face to go to ARC. Can he do that to go down on a magnum bolt?

Rebarrel to 65 PRC - uses magnum bolt and dramatically less recoil than 300WSM. If you reload, you can reduce the recoil of 65PRC even more

I’ve already have a complete setup of reloading materials for the 6.5CM so that’s really why I had planned on going that route, but I do honestly appreciate the other ideas. I’ll check out the trading forum and see what I can come up with thank you..

Yeah it's a low bar though, I think it's 10 posts to access the classifieds and be able to PM, or you can pay a fee to access them immediately. I think the fee is like $50, but you should be able to find all of it in the rules forum.

That makes sense. It all depends on how recoil sensitive your FIL is. The 6 creed will do everything the 6.5 will do with 30% less recoil, but you could also achieve that recoil reduction with a suppressor or brake in the 6.5.

Either one will obviously be a huge decrease from a 300 WSM. Depending on what state you're in, and what your maximum shot distance is, a lot of guys on this forum are moving to 22 calibers. Since you're new to the forum, this thread will give you some reading for the next month or so. :ROFLMAO:

There are identical threads on 6mm and 6.5mm chamberings as well.

Just sell the rifle cheap then roll the funds into a new 6.5CM. That would be the most expedient and cost effective way to do it. Even if you flipped the rifle for 650, you will only be out of pocket 150-200 bucks for the new rifle.

This unless you really want an aftermarket barrel. There are black friday sales on tikkas happening / going to happen and there is still a $75 rebate too. Easy button.

New barrel is more work and money. Either he buys the tools or uses a gunsmith. Still will need a new bolt for the CM. Just flip it.

I think I'd just buy a new Tikka in 6.5CM with the $75 rebate. There are several sites that offer "email pricing" I've seen stainless 6.5CMs for around $715 (plus shipping) plus an FFL will charge a fee but luckily the rebate will generally cover those costs. Still cheaper than messing with changing parts on a Tikka to match.
